I'm Just Another Monster, Too
My feet dragged as I started to get tired, my stomach churning with an unwanted sickness that I tried to suppress. I took slow step after slow step, my sword loosely gripped between my fingers and pointed at the long line of Saviors.
The numbers were about even but we had the upper hand, attaching their bindings together to form a chain as they reluctantly followed our orders. Jesus' orders, more like.
I didn't know why he so certain that what he was doing was the right thing. Bringing them back to Hilltop would only give them a slower death, dragging out the pain with each step closer to home. Maggie wanted them dead just as much as I did.
My teethed ground together with irritation as one of the prisoners whistled joyfully, but I tried to ignore it. Morgan seemed to have something personal against him, the man with the long hair, so I figured he would handle it if it came down to that.
I couldn't tell who the leader was, but the man with curly blonde hair had been the one to surrender first, so I kept a close eye on him. If anything happened, he would be the first to die.
I kind of wanted them to try something, anything to give me an excuse. Maybe one of them bent down to tie their shoelace and I mistook it as him reaching for a knife. Perhaps if one of them coughed in a funny way and I assumed it was a subtle signal to attack. It's not just because I wanted them dead, but this walk was starting to get boring.
I almost cut the Savior in two on instinct when they all froze in their tracks, Morgan pointing his gun in the face of the long haired man.
"Walkers on the hill!" I spun to see what was happening, raising my sword when dead bodies tumbled down the grassy bank, coming to a stop by our feet. I slashed through them with ease, pushing them away and driving the blade through their heads. They kept coming, some attracted to the defenceless Saviors as they couldn't do anything to fight them off.
I paused when a walker leapt on a restrained man, his pained yells echoing as it sunk its teeth into his face. It took me a few moments to snap out of my watchful daze, pushing my sword through his skull to silence his screams, then the walkers. They fell in a heap of skin and blood, pooling around them and soaking into the rope.
A string of Saviors dragged themselves into the woods, trying to make a break for it as Morgan followed with murder in his features. I rolled my eyes, knowing they wouldn't make it far with their bonds.
I spun on my heel, the sharp end of my weapon aimed in the face of the blonde haired Savior. He stumbled on his feet, keeping them planted completely still as he put his hands up in surrender. Jesus was nowhere in sight, Tara neither. A silence fell over the road as the gunshots ceased.
"Why ain't you running?" I asked with frustration, my grip not faltering even as he remained still.
He shrugged, his eyes still wary of my weapon. "Not got anything to run to." He admitted.
"You got a lot to run from, though." I countered, meeting his eyes with a glare. He breathed out an amused chuckle, nodding with consideration.
"I think I'll take my chances." He glanced at my sword and I hesitantly lowered it, his posture visibly relaxing. "I'm Alden."
"I don't care." I muttered, my eyes narrowed. "Just because I haven't shot you yet doesn't make us friends. You would be dead in the ground if it was up to me."
His eyebrows furrowed as I peered into the trees. "It's not?"

A content feeling rushed through me when we finally reached the Hilltop, the gates swinging open as soon as we got there.
I walked right up to the entrance as Maggie and Enid greeted us, my peacefulness suddenly subsiding when a familiar voice rang in my ears.
"We are not letting them-" Gregory's protests were cut off by my swinging fist, my knuckles hitting hard against his jaw as he staggered back. He rubbed the sore area as he met my gaze, the shock twisting into terror as I gripped the handle of my sword, readying to bring it down.
"Belle!" Maggie raised her voice into a shout, her eyes holding a sharp stare as I scowled in return.
"I told you I would kill him." I bit my cheek, my fingers flexing around the weapon. It was a promise I intended to keep.
"He's not worth you killing another person. Not him." She insisted as she stormed over. I ran my tongue over my dry lips, my eyebrows permanently drawn in fury. But I didn't want to disappoint Maggie of all people.
I sucked in a deep, calming breath, sheathing my sword and allowing Enid to take Gregory inside, completely unharmed and safe. We had to deal with the problem at hand.
Maggie scanned the lines of prisoners, her arms folded in front of her with consideration.
"There are families here. Children." She told Jesus, reluctant to let the presumably violent people inside.
"There's two empty trailers out back. We could lock them in there with round the clock guards until this whole thing is over." He suggested earnestly.
"What about after?" I questioned, my eyes narrow. "We just let them go?" These weren't good people. They may have been Negan's army, but who's to say they'll follow our lead as soon as the tyrannical man is dead?
"You know what they've done to us. What they've taken from us." Maggie met Jesus' eyes, which were full of hope.
"Of course I do. But they surrendered." He replied. I wished the Savior, Alden, had just fired at us instead. It would make this thing a whole lot easier. "We can't let them go, and we can't kill them."

"I promised Carl I'd be back yesterday, I don't want him to worry." I told Maggie as she walked me to the car, the keys twirling in my fingers.
Maggie passed a letter over, the thin paper scrawled with black ink, signed by her at the bottom. "Take this, give it to Michonne if Rick isn't back."
I nodded, shoving it in my pocket as I put one foot in the car. The rest of body didn't follow as I hesitated, a thought replaying in my mind.
"You're not mad at me, right?" I nervously picked at my fingers, avoiding her gaze. "I mean, for almost killing Gregory. It's just, after what happened at the Sanctuary, you can't trust him-"
"I'm not mad." Maggie reassured me with a soft smile. "I don't trust him, either. But I have to set an example for the people here. You do, too."
I chewed on my lip as she grabbed my hand, making me meet her gaze. "I'm proud of you, Belle. You're stubborn and you've got one hell of a temper, but you're good. That's all that matters."
I pursed my lips, squeezing her hand once before getting in the seat. "I'll see you soon." I promised, twisting the key and starting the car. I let out a disappointed sigh. I couldn't be who she wanted me to be, not while the Saviors were still around.
