It's A Mad World Full Of Mad People
I watched as Hershel stitched up Allen's leg. He was part of the new group who came in through the tombs. After they had calmed down a bit, we properly introduced ourselves and offered to help them out.
"Belle, you've done stitches a hundred times by now, why don't you get something to eat?" Hershel told me. I kept a close eye on everything he was doing, even it was simple.
"Axel's making spaghetti. Got nothing else to do." I shrugged him off.
"Pretty nice having medical training." Tyreese said from where he sat at the next table over. I had just finished cleaning a wound on his arm which he was very appreciative about. He looked intimidating, with his towering figure and hammer at his belt, but his kind smile seemed to change my whole perspective of him.
"Only gets you so far." Hershel replied over his shoulder.
"You were bit?" Tyreese was looking at his leg, or rather the place where it should've been. It was still a sensitive topic seeing as it happened recently, but Hershel was taking it well.
Beth came in to make Judith some formula, catching the siblings' attention. They stood and watched as Beth carried her to the counter.
"How old is the baby?"
"A week, nearly." I told Sasha. Just a week ago, Lori had died in childbirth and Carl was forced to shoot her.
Sasha was amazed. I initially thought she was, well, an asshole, but I think she just lost her temper. It happened sometimes, I understood that. In her more relaxed state, she was nice to talk to. She slowly walked in Beth's direction, not taking her eyes off the baby in her arms.
"To be honest, we never thought we'd see another baby. Beautiful." She had reached Beth. "How are you feeling?"
Beth's hair whipped around as her head spun, staring at Sasha in confusion. She realised what she was asking and quickly said, "she's not mine."
My heart dropped at what was said next. She couldn't have known, it wasn't her fault, but Sasha really touched a nerve. "Where's the mother?"
The silence that followed answered for her and she apologised, dropping her gaze and going back to her seat.
"Man, you people have been through the mill." Oh, you had no idea.
"We've had our problems with people." Hershel admitted to Tyreese. I thought of Shane, the other prisoners, the people in bar that Glenn told me about. I noticed a common trend- Rick killed them. He really did do anything to protect us.
But these people, Tyreese and his group, they were good people. They could've easily taken us out by now. An old man on crutches, two kids, a girl holding a baby and the most chilled out criminal in the world. We stood no chance.
"Like I said, we have a much larger group. A close knit group." Hershel continued. We had become a family after spending so much time together, depending on each other and fighting for each other. "I wouldn't get too comfortable here."
"We wouldn't be a problem." Tyreese pitched. But it wasn't our decision to make.

I was starting to get impatient. They weren't back yet, they should be back by now. I was pacing around the front gate, picking off a couple walkers growling at me. I just needed to distract myself while I waited.
"You out here alone?" Carol called. Her and Carl were walking towards me along the path. I was glad to see her up on her feet again.
I put the machete back in the sheath, wiping my hands of blood. "Just waiting. They're gonna be back any minute, figured someone would need to open the gate."
