And They Just Keep Coming
We were gathered in Beth's cell, making ourselves comfortable while we waited for the others to come back. I stood beside Carl against the wall while Axel and Beth sat down, Carol at the door.
"You are good with her. You got little sisters?" Axel asked Beth as she rocked Judith.
Beth smiled at me and I felt so happy I could've cried. She really thought of me as a sister now.
"How old are you anyway?" Axel questioned. At first I thought he was just being friendly, getting used to the group. Now, it felt a little weird.
"17." Beth answered shortly. Maybe she felt it too.
"May I speak with you?" Carol dragged Axel out the cell, probably to tell him off. Beth looked at me and snickered slightly, me and Carl joining in. I offered to take Judith and I bounced her in my arms, taking in her soft giggles. Carl held her hand, stroking his thumb softly against it. I could practically feel the affection coming off him as he stared at his sister. He dropped it at the sound of screams coming from below. His hand hesitated around his gun, ears pricking up.
"What was that?" Beth rushed out.
"That was from inside." I confirmed when it came again.
"I'm going." Carl attached his silencer onto the gun, making for the door.
"I'm coming, too." I stood from my seat but Carl stopped me.
"No, you stay here. Protect Judith. Keep her safe." He ran towards the tombs and I sat back down, fearing the worst. He might not come back. It was barely minutes later that Carl, joined by a small group of people, wandered into the chamber. The strangers calmed down, catching their breath as they stopped in the safe place. I took in their appearances. A tall man wearing a hat, carrying a woman who looked half dead, a teenager around Beth's age and a man holding the boy, presumably his father.
"Who the hell are you? How did you get in here? Who are you with?" Another woman asked urgently. I passed Judith to Beth, assuming Carl would like the back up. I entered the chamber, keeping my gun ready. The tall man glanced over at me as he laid the woman on the ground. I think she was dead now.
"Look, we can help you," Carl started, "but first things first." I followed his gaze to the dead woman on the ground. Her arm had a large red bite taken out of it. The father and son were sobbing in each other's arms. I assumed they were family.
"I'll take care of it." Carl said as he pulled the hammer back on his gun. I paced over and shoved it out the way, staring at him in shock.
"Carl...let them handle it. She's one of there's ." I hissed at him. He almost glared at me, but pulled his gun away nonetheless. The tall man, Tyreese, grabbed a hammer, holding it over the woman's face. "Come on." I whispered to Carl, dragging him by the hand to the gate. I thought it was best to give them a bit of privacy as they put her down. I prepared for the sickening blow to her head but it never came, as they were distracted by us locking them in.
"Kid, did you just lock us in here?" Tyreese asked breathlessly.
"Open the door!" The surviving woman yelled in a less calm manner.
"This room is secure, you'll be safe." Carl ignored their requests.
"You'll have food and water." I pointed through the gate at the pile of supplies on the counter. The woman pulled on the bars. "Open this door." She demanded.
"I can't." Carl didn't hesitate. He was doing what he thought his dad would do.
"Oh, come on, man. We're not animals. Don't do this." Silence followed. She saw Hershel peer around the corner, yelling in his direction. "You can't just leave us in here! Open this door! Open it now!" She screamed, rattling the gate.
"Sasha!" So that was her name. Sasha, the woman with anger issues and no patience. Good to know.
"Back away from the door, and let the man go. Look around you. This is the best we've had in weeks." Tyreese appeared to be the more rational of the two. They looked like they could be brother and sister, or at least cousins. You could tell they were related by the way Tyreese wasn't fazed by Sasha's outburst.
"We don't want any trouble." Tyreese told us once Sasha calmed down. I believed him. He had a kind face and spoke softly. They resumed their task of taking care of the dead lady. We would have to wait for Rick to return to decide what to do with them.
