I Could Breathe Again

It took a lot of persuading, but Hershel finally buckled and allowed me outside. I walked with him through the halls, pushing doors open and finally reaching the great outdoors. I hadn't felt the sun on my face in days, the feeling of fresh air whipping through my clothes.

"Thank you, Hershel. For everything." He raised an eyebrow at me and I continued. "You saved Glenn's life, you treated Lizzie. I lost hope more than once in there but you didn't. I know I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. So thank you."

He nodded in appreciation. "I always knew you would make it. You're the strongest kid I know." He patted me on the shoulder and left towards the fields.

Where should I go first? I could hug people again, I could actually see them face to face instead of through the glass window. Carl? Beth? Rick?

I decided I should thank Michonne for getting the medicine. She had gone out there with Daryl, Tyreese and Bob, causing her to be exposed to the sickness when she didn't even need to. I definitely owed her for that one. I found her by a car, loading walkers into the back. These must be the ones Rick and Carl took down.

"Need any help?" I asked as I wound through the bodies. She tossed one on the pile and laughed.

"Shouldn't you be taking it easy?" She questioned. I brushed it off with a dismissive wave of my hand.

"Nah, I'm better now. Because of you. Thanks for getting the medicine." I stepped over the bodies to hug her, not letting go until she returned it.

"You really wanna help?" She proposed. I nodded eagerly and she told me to fetch my sword. We would be going outside the walls.

I put the strap of my sword over my head and ran back outside, catching my breath once I stopped.

"I told you, you still need to rest." I saw Hershel and Michonne sitting in the car, waiting for me. I huffed and got in the back.

"I'm fine, I swear. I just haven't run that much for a while. Shouldn't you be resting? You barely got any sleep treating those people." I countered.

Hershel smiled. "I just felt like a drive."
