Not Again, Never Again

"Belle, wake up." I felt hands on my shoulder, shaking me gently. My eyes scrunched together before opening, seeing Carl beside me. I must've fallen asleep in his cell.

"Was your dad pissed when he realised we stayed up all night?" I rubbed the exhaustion from my eyes.

Carl chuckled. "Kinda. Come on." I swung my legs from beneath the blanket and he pulled me up, placing the hat on his head before we left.

In the distance, I could see Hershel and Rick kneeling in the field, Beth cradling Judith beside them. We stopped once we got there and they stood up, starting to dig. Rick handed Carl a shovel and encouraged him to follow. I stood beside Beth, tickling the gurgling baby.

"Put it in at more of an angle." Rick instructed Carl, walking over to show him how it's done. Carl copied his dad, forcing the shovel into the ground, knocking his hat off in the process. Rick picked it up, dusting off the grass and placing it down on my head. I laughed, adjusting the rim so I could see from underneath.

"I think it looks better on me." I laughed at Carl, who only smiled widely in return.

"Belle, wake up." I felt the familiar shoving against my shoulders and opened my eyes. I guess I must've been dreaming. I put the jacket on my arms, shrugging on the bag before we took off again. We were getting closer to Terminus every day.

"How hungry are you, scale of one to ten?" Rick asked as he heated the metal tin.

"15."

"19."

"28."

We didn't have a lot of food, and had resulted to rationing. I was just thankful I had anything at all. Carl told me about the houses he searched while his dad was passed out, and how he finished off a whole tin of chocolate pudding. He added that they were ran out of the house by Rick, who had narrowly escaped a larger group.

"Yeah, it's been a while. I'm gonna go check the snares." He rose from his crouched position.

Carl blew out the embers on the end of a stick. "Can I go with you?"

"Well, how else are you gonna learn?"

Me and Michonne joined them, eager to see if we had anything else to eat.

"We're close now, right? To Terminus?" Carl inquired, his hands in his pockets as we walked down the path. Rick nodded. "When we get there, are we gonna tell them?"

"Tell them what?" Michonne wondered out loud.

"Everything that's happened to us. All the stuff we've done. We gonna tell them the truth?" Carl continued.

I couldn't speak for the others, but I was keeping who I was to myself. Just because they claimed the had a safe place doesn't mean I trusted them.

We came up on the trap in the bushes, Rick instantly bending down to see what he caught. "It's a small one. It'll do." He shoved the rabbit it in his bag before explaining to Carl. "So, this is just a simple slipknot. You tie one on both ends, then you tighten one side to a branch. Now, you see how the ground here is sort of like a funnel shape? That's where you want to set the noose. Any animals going by have to run this way, right into the trap."

"Any animals, or any idiots feet." I piped up, recalling my accident from a few days ago.

"Or, any idiots feet." Rick repeated.
