Get Me Off Of This Bus
"Hey, kid. I'm sorry, you know? I guess I was kinda bitchy or whatever." My head rose as I heard Rosita talking from the seat opposite me. We hadn't been on the road for long, but I think she had noticed my sullen expression. I couldn't help it. I was glad I was here, but all I could think about was the people I left behind.
"What? Oh, it's fine. I get it." I told her, glancing out the window. Nothing but trees.
"So...that your boyfriend?" She asked curiously and my face blushed pink from embarrassment.
"Who? Carl? No, oh my god. He's my friend." I stuttered out, earning a laugh from Glenn, who was sitting in the seat in front next to his wife. "Shut up." I slumped down in my seat, trying to hide my face. Blushing would not help me right now.
"So you kiss all your friends?" Rosita pestered. Damn, I thought I was starting to like her.
"You kissed Carl?" Maggie's mouth hung open in shock, turning around in her seat to face me.
"No. I didn't, it was just his cheek, I swear. I don't know why I did it." I shrugged as best as I could from my awkward position. Glenn and Maggie shared a look of amusement and I pretended I didn't notice.
God, get me out of this situation.
"Where did you acquire this fine weapon?" I heard Eugene ask. He was analysing my sword, testing the sharp edge.
"It was a gift. From Michonne." He handed it back to me and I noticed the handle stained with blood. That was never coming out.
"Would you consider it a more effective method of dispatching, quote unquote, dead alive beings than, say, a regular blade?" I wasn't sure why he was trying to make conversation. Maybe it was because it was between either me or Abraham, and that latter kind of scared him in his seriously focused condition.
"Sure. At least now I can actually get 'em in one go. I swear, I don't think I've grown since I was eleven." My height was one of the many things that pissed me off.
"And have you-" Eugene started, but I cut him off.
"Listen, Eugene. You're super smart, we get that. But some of us haven't been to school in a long time so you're gonna have to dumb it down just a little bit." I complained. Half the time, I couldn't even understand what he was saying. I usually just smiled and nodded.
"Right-o." There was a chorus of chuckles around the short bus. Maybe this group wasn't so bad.
