I'm A Lover, I'm A Fighter, I Am Not A Driver

The RV screeched to a halt once we returned through the gates of Alexandria and I hopped out immediately, my arms full of medicine and vitamins. I dropped them off at the infirmary, quickly telling Denise all about the ultrasound and Harlan and how he can help with Maggie's pregnancy. I left when I saw the deep relief on her face.

"You look happy...why?" Carl asked suspiciously when I walked into the house, half way through feeding Judith.

I shrugged with a small smile. "Maggie's baby is gonna be okay, we got a lot of food. Jesus wasn't lying, the Hilltop exists." I fell into the chair beside him, watching as Judith fussed over a mouthful of peas.

"Just like that?" Carl asked with furrowed eyebrows, making me sigh hesitantly.

"Rick's gonna tell us everything at the church later, don't worry about it." I dismissed with a wave of my hand. I wasn't worried about fighting the Saviors, it sounded like something we could easily win. It's not like we had any other choice.

"These Saviors, sooner or later, they would've found us, just like those Wolves did, just like Jesus did. They would've killed someone." Rick addressed the community as we gathered in the church, spreading out across the pews with attentive ears.

I hoped everyone would understand what Rick was saying. If we didn't attack the Saviors first, then soon enough they would've wiped us out themselves. It's us or them.

"This is the only way to be sure, as sure as we can get, that we win. And we have to win. We do this for the Hilltop, it's how we keep this place. This needs to be a group decision. If anybody objects, here's your chance to say your piece."

I couldn't suppress my eye roll when Morgan stood up at the back. I knew all about the man he hid, the man he saved when he was supposed to kill him. It was a secret that could've ended very badly for us, if it wasn't for Carol.

"You're sure we can do it?" He expressed his concern. "We can beat them?"

"What this group has done, what we've learned, what we've become, all of us- yes, I'm sure." Rick insisted.

"Then all we have to do is just tell them that." Morgan replied.

"Well, they don't compromise-"

"This isn't a compromise. It's a choice you give them. It's a way out, for them and for us." Morgan interrupted.

"We try and talk to the Saviors, we give up our advantage, our safety. No, we have to come for them before they come for us. We can't leave them alive." Rick continued. I thought about Terminus, how we let them live and how they came back for us and ate Bob's leg. We couldn't let that happen again. "Morgan, they always come back." The Governor came back, he destroyed the prison and killed Hershel right in front of us. This was the only way.

Morgan had no supporters, no one standing up for his side.

"We kill them all."

"You're not seriously thinking about going?" Carl rushed into my room, a look of disbelief on his face. I kept my gaze on my feet and my mouth shut. "You can stay."

"I can't stay. Rick's got a plan, okay? My plan. This has never happened before, Carl, and I should be a part of it. People are listening to me, they're agreeing with my decisions, I can't just sit out." I sighed with frustration, landing on my bed. He sat by my side, leaning close.

"I just want you to be safe." He muttered, leaning back against the headboard.

I thought about that boy, Rory, the one who was killed by the Saviors. He died because of them, he didn't get to fight. So maybe I should fight for him. That could've been Carl, it could've been someone I loved.
