22.5) Layla's past years

After they 'successfully ingested' Shorter with 'Banana Fish', they took Eiji away some place else. You and your mother were brought to an office and were instructed to wait for Golzine. Shorter was still left in the lab as his behaviour, heart rate, puls and brain waves got recorded and noted.

"Y/n, i bought you time with the fake drug. You need to come up with something if you want to save those friend of yours" Warned your mother as she talked in a really low voice so others wouldn't hear you both.

"I'm trying to come up with one, mother. But please tell me, since when are you and that maniac Abraham so close with each other? And that perv Golzine too. It seems like he trusts you a lot, especially with leaving us both alone here" You said in a disgusted tone thinking about your mother and Abraham.

"Y/n keep your filthy mouth shut" Instructed your mother as you sighed. You questioned yourself how all of this even happened as you thought back to what happened between your mother and you just a few hours ago, before you guys got transported to the lab.

Flashback (Before Shorter got drugged)

"Care to tell me what the fuck you were doing the past 4 years when i thought you were dead?" You asked really pissed at your mother as you held your head in your hands. Trying to relieve the pain from your head massaging your tempels.

"Y/n, 4 years ago, i completed your father's autopsy and studied the results more, i noticed something weird. I detected left over residu's of a weird drug. I extracted it and was able to make a replica of it so i could prove that Elijah's death was planned, using the replica of the drug as proof. When i went to the cops to report it, they were being really weird about it, but they still confiscated it to my request." Your mother sighed taking a deep breath in.

You nodded and told her to go ahead with her story.

"After i reported it, i had a really weird feeling, like a sixth sense. So i called doctor Meredith and handed him your responsibility. That night, when they took me away, i was brought to Golzine. He offered me two deals, It was either you and me both dead, or that i join them and you get to live" Your mother tried explaining, hoping you'd understand where the story was going.

You stayed quiet, trying to take everything in. You were still in denial and in great shock, but it clicked in your mind. You shot your head up, looking towards your mother who kept balling her eyes out which irritated you even more. Don't get it wrong, it wasn't that you hated her. You were angry, angry that she had gotten taken away from you which resulted to your self destruction, to your personal hell hole where you got involved with the wrong people at the wrong time.

"Let me guess,  father got used as a lab rat in the military. Since you detected the drug, which is quiet impossible for a normal person, they noticed your ridiculous genius scientific skills and wanted you to alter and perfect Banana Fish since it had some flaws so it could become the perfect drug for assassination which wouldn't leave a trace behind?"  You asked, even though you already knew the answer.

Layla dried her tears away and looked at you, smiling. "Still as sharp as ever, y/n" Commented Layla, impressed by how fast you could put two and two together.

"So you're the reason this drug has made it's way back to people's life to ruin it?" You asked gritting your teeth.

Layla stared at you as your question caught her extremely off guard. "I- y/n"

"Sorry, i shouldn't have said that mother" You said looking down. "You probably didn't have a choice and you had to survive so.. i guess i get why you did what you had to do"
