I get overwhelmed

The silence hung around us, the air feeling thick as your short, shallow gasps failed to provide the oxygen you needed. Swallowing the lump in your throat, you softly touch the picture of you and Katsuki in your matching school uniforms, eyes dancing back and forth between your own soft eyes and beaming face as his own smiling lips touched your cheek. You looked so happy, so full of bliss. Small drops of water land on your hand, the album, and your chest. Puzzled, you lift your hand to your face feeling the tears that had dampened your cheeks. Exhaling a shaky breath, Katsuki kneels in front of you, softly taking the photo album from your grasp and tenderly pulling you in for a hug.

"I didn't know how to tell you. I didn't think you would believe me. I thought if you saw the pictures, maybe things would click or start to come back." His voice was the softest you had ever heard it, his touch delicate. You closed your eyes, trying to focus on what he was feeling. Worry, Guilt, Love, Relief.

"I need some air." you mumbled as Mitsuki stroked your hair, pulling you from Katsuki's arms.

"Of course sweetie. Why don't we have a seat outside?" She gives you a reassuring smile, leading you out the backdoor to their patio. You perch on the rough cushion, picking at your nails as you look out over their yard. Staring at the small pond, you get flashes of memories; all of which are you and a young Katsuki playing in the water, catching frogs, bugs, and other creepy crawlers.

"Why don't I get you some water, Taru. You okay for a minute?" Mitsuki's gentle voice grabs your attention as you give her a stiff nod, turning back to the pond. You start thinking about each image that flashes in your mind as your heart pounds in your chest.

Swinging on the playground, jumping off the jungle gym, eating ice cream, climbing a giant tree. You needed to get to that tree, you needed to see the playground. You just needed to know it was real. Jolting up, you start sprinting, letting your body guide you by muscle memory. Your chucks hitting the concrete of the sidewalk as you leave the confusing comfort of the Bakugou's yard. Running down the street for what felt like endless blocks until you dart left at an intersection. You had no idea where you were going but it just felt right. Chest aching with gasping breaths you refuse to let your body slow down, pumping your legs as you feel the threat of fresh sobs choke up your throat.

Just when you think you can't stand the burning of your muscles any longer you start to slow as a playground comes into view. Benches surround the perimeter as the glow from the setting sun reflects off the metallic bars, swings, and various other equipment. You fall onto a bench and stare out over the play area as more memories flood your mind. Furiously rubbing away your tears, you try to stifle the sobs that escape you. He knew. He knew everything and never said a word. You trusted him, you felt so drawn to him, was this why? Was this your body trying to tell you what you had seemed to forget? You sat there mulling over your confused and angry thoughts while watching the last of the remaining sun dip below the tree line. The sky slowly transforms from warm orange and yellow to a cool purple darkness.

You feel a presence taking a seat beside you, but it's an unfamiliar one. You tense as they scoot close enough that your skin raises from the cold temperature radiating off their body. Swallowing thickly, you turn to meet the heterochromic gaze of Shoto Todoroki, calm and tranquil energy enveloping you as you take in his emotions.

"You shouldn't be out here alone, especially at night, Doctor. It's dangerous." His deep voice was smooth and soothing as he offered you some of a chocolate bar. You reach and lightly snap a piece off, giving him a small smile of thanks.

"You know, he's worried about you. When you weren't outside, he panicked and called all of us to look for you. I was already on patrol in this area when I saw you." Shoto explains softly, snapping his own small piece of chocolate and popping it in his mouth.
