Hotaru's POV

12 years ago, I-Island

"Come on, Little Doll. You know I'm not a very patient man." Touya's dry voice called boredly as I hustled out of my bedroom, throwing my hair up in a messy ponytail.

"I'm ready, I'm ready. Stop rushing me. It's only a ten minute drive to school! Why are we even leaving so early?" I let out a muffled whine as I held my tie in my mouth trying to straighten my blouse.

"Tch. Come here. You look like a feral animal." Touya patted the ottoman in front of him, motioning for me to sit. Huffing, I roll my eyes and with as much attitude as I could muster, I throw myself onto the plush cushion, criss crossing my legs. Touya gently pulls the hair tie from my locks, shaking my hair out before reaching for the brush on the end table. Ever so carefully he begins to run the brush through my lilac hair, smoothing out the bumps and tangles as he gathers the hair at the crown of my head.

"It amazes me how something so pretty and dainty can act so crass and aggressive." His hot breath fans the back of my neck as he mutters insults incoherently towards me.

"And it amazes me how you try to act older than you really are. What are you, my Dad? You're like seventeen." I scoff, biting my thumb nail as I wait for Touya to finish my hair. With a dull thud, the back of the brush smacks my hand away from my mouth as I yelp in protest.

"What the Hell, Touya?!"

"Young ladies don't chew their nails like savages, Little Doll." He then pats my head, signaling that he had finished my hair. Standing, I turn and look at Touya as he grabs the tie from my hand and begins to fish it through my collar, gently looping it through itself into a small knot. I study his face as he lazily looks down at my tie, His turquoise eyes always blazingly bright, his skin smooth aside from the small, purple patches that adorned his jawline, neck, and arms. His icy white hair was almost luminous, with faint red specks that occasionally danced through his messy, spiked locks. Touya was handsome, especially when he smiled at me. He was the first boy I ever thought of as handsome. Well, probably because he wasn't a boy. I felt butterflies flutter in my stomach as he looked up, shooting me a crooked smirk before tilting my chin up.

"You feel alright, Little Doll? That cute face of yours is all red." Gasping, I pull away and sprint to the door to grab my shoes and school bag.

"I'm Fine! Just hungry! We should go!" I flung the door open and bolted out of the house, Touya's deep chuckle echoing behind me.

As I sat in the car, flipping through the pages of my book I figured out why we had left so early. Touya had to do some work for Uncle on the way, so rather than leaving me to walk to school alone, he insisted on waking me up early so he could drive and drop me off. The thought that Touya cared enough about me to make sure he took me to school had me grinning like an idiot. I had known Touya for three years and he was always looking out for me. He said it was because he had a little sister back home, but a part of me wanted to think it was because he liked me. Lost in my daydream, I was startled when the driver's door opened suddenly, only to have Touya drop lazily in the seat, lighting a cigarette with a flame on the tip of his pinky. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, showing more of his purple birthmarks that were scattered over his skin. His hair was somehow even messier than when he had left, singe marks littered his shirt and pants.

"Take a picture, Little Doll. It will last longer~"He cooed darkly at me, causing me to squeak as I buried my face into my book, trying to pretend that I hadn't just been gawking at him. His throaty chuckle filled my ears as he started the car, pulling out of the warehouse lot and began the trek to my school.
