She was leaving

She was leaving.

I was upset about it. Obviously.

Carli's got something about her. I wouldn't give her the satisfaction of knowing this but she is the life of the party.

I was least expecting her for Christmas. But there she was. And the best part is, she didn't annoy me as much.

"I'm gonna miss you." I said as we hugged.

"Please I wish I could say the same." She giggled. "I'm kidding. Don't be all sensitive about it now." She turned to Jace. "You aren't hurting him anymore. And do something about your wardrobe. I'm serious."

Jace smiled.

Aunt Nelly hugged me and Jace.

Just as they were leaving, Carli turned and whispered "There's something in the back pocket. Take it out after dinner. Not anytime before it." I forgot about it almost immediately. Soon they disappeared amongst the many people at the airport as we drove away.

We were driving to Nishi's place. She wanted to have an actual dinner with all of us there. It was a little extra but Nishi never did anything simple so we moved along with it.

There was an atrocious smile on her face when she opened the door to us. Creepy.

"Make yourselves at home!" She said as we both followed her inside.

"Oh, hey!" Mrs. Bahl walked out of the kitchen. She looked pretty as always. Carli would scream if I told her she was missing out on authentic Indian dressing.

Well, not exactly authentic. But it works.

"So they're here!" A girl, who looked a little older than Nishi, came down the staircase. She looked pretty in the bright red dress.

"Yes, Ani. Go up. Did you forget what I said about not disturbing us before dinner?" Nishi looked furious.

"Nishi! That was rude." Mrs. Bahl shot up. "You apologize. Now!"

"But I told her—" Nishi cried but the girl cut her off in between.

"It's okay. I'll go up." She was polite.

"No! I think Nishi here could use some company." Mrs. Bahl looked at Nishi. "Anika, Come down and help her set the food." She sounded assertive.

Nishi sighed in irritation. "When is Ashley coming?" She asked us. "And Cole?"

"They're both on their ways." Jace answered.

Nishi made us sit in the living room. "So who's Anika?" I tried my level best to pronounce the name right.

"She's my cousin who flew in from India. She'll be living with us." She was definitely annoyed. She walked away to help her mom.

The bell rang and Anika opened the door to Ashley and Cole.
