I rang the bell

I rang the bell. I had the keys somewhere in my bag but my eyes were too wet to search them up. I was trying to control my tears but they just wouldn't stop. I took a second and tried to act normal.

"SURPRISE!" I looked up and suddenly found Jessica standing in front of me. I was shocked.

"What are you doing here?" I almost screamed.

"I came home a little early for Christmas." She explained while I slid my arms around her.

"Oh I definitely missed this!" She exclaimed. I missed it too. And at this point I needed it too.

"Where's Jace? You texted mom you were getting him home." A sudden wave of chills ran deep through my body when I heard his name.

"Did you meet Rowan?" I asked skipping the question entirely.

She looked at me and waited for a second. "Yeah!" She said. I was sure she understood something was up. "I am giving you ten minutes. Get changed. I'll get the popcorn. Your room cus mine is completely messed up. We're watching Monte Carlo."

---❁---

"So. You gonna spill?" She asked while we watched the movie. It was only Jess who was watching. Rowan was just here cus I was here and I was just thinking about him and what happened today. I genuinely didn't want to talk about him. But then it was Jessica. She would have a better understanding of the situation.

"Jace...." I shouldn't have taken his name. It strangely started making me mad and of course the tears were mandatory. ".....Kissed Ashley." I let out a sigh.

"What? When?" She was surprised by it for sure but she didn't give a big reaction. She was staying calm for my sake.

"Yesterday." Before I could control them my tears were already running down my cheeks. Jess paused the movie.

"But how do you know for sure?" I knew she was gonna ask that. I wiped my tears off but more fell soon.

"There was a video." She was finally reacting. Her eyes widened.

"There.. must be some reason. I don't think Jace would do something like this without a reason." Wait what?

"Are you actually trying to defend him right now?" My voice wasn't as feeble as it sounded earlier. There was a certain rage laced to it. Along with a little pain.

I stood up abruptly as she spoke. "Allan I'm just trying to look at this from a different perspective." I got up and opened the door for her.

"Well then it's clearly not helping." I said and she left.

Rowan was still sitting on my bed. I shut my door, rushed to him and I fell asleep.

---❁---

It wasn't bright exactly. It was not the kind of weather people would prefer going out in. Black storm clouds and the sunlight dancing its way out though them. I could feel the moisture in the air—damp and dusky.

I looked down to find him standing with me. His arms were tight around me and I could feel his skin on mine. It was absurd how his touch felt so cold. He was kissing me suddenly. I've been here before. I've been in this same spot before.

He pulled back and I opened my eyes and he was nowhere to be seen. I looked around and it was all dark. I took a few steps. He wasn't there. I started to run. Desperately. I looked around as if I would ever find him. Somewhere inside I realized he was gone. He wasn't returning.

I heard a static. It was strong enough to make me tremble. I closed my eyes and pressed my ears shut. It didn't help. And then I was choking all of a sudden. This had all happened before but it was still so surreal. Someone was grabbing me by my neck and lifting me up.

They threw me down as I gasped for air, expecting to hit the ground. But instead I was surrounded by dark brown brick walls. I had seen these before. The moss grew from within the bricks. I still felt someone holding me down by my neck. I ran my fingers over my neck but there was nothing that was holding me down. But I was still choking—running out of breath.

I was here again—underwater. I felt the water hitting my body. It was cold and that made it even more painful. I looked around, screaming, I could see the hand around my neck again. I couldn't see who it was but It was scary. I looked to the other side and I found Jace submerged. He was drowning. I screamed but to my horror I couldn't even hear myself and then I looked at the hand that held me and then back at Jace and then—

---❁---

I gasped for air as I woke up. I was sweating profoundly. I looked around and it took me a few seconds to calm myself down. It was the second time I was having this nightmare. Only the first time Jace was here. It was scary how I saw him in it this time. That never happened before. It was new.

I hugged myself and my tears fell as I crumpled into a corner of my bed. I was scared and it wasn't just about one thing.
