"Hey Allan!" Cole spoke from my right.
"Hey Cole." Allan stuttered. He kept pulling his sleeves to his palms. "Hey everyone."
Everyone welcomed him calmly. The tension around the table was rising. But we all kept it off our faces. Allan snuggled next to Cole like a little baby. He just looks so cute with those big glasses and that little smile.
"So how is Jessica?" Cole asked, trying to cut off the awkward silence.
Allan rustled in his seat and sat up straight. I could see he was nervous. "She is fine. She might come a bit early for winter break."
"Sooooo! Last night was fun." I spoke up.
"Hell yeah!" Maddie said.
There was another awkward silence but this time Allan broke it. "Where did you two find my glasses though?"
Cole didn't know about the glasses. When they fell from the edge yesterday, the right side temple came out from the hinge and the screw was missing. I assumed it must've been loose. I managed to pick them up while we were taking Allan to the car, hoping I could fix them.
It took me two whole hours to find a screw that would fit the hinge. These screws are like extremely small so I had the whole house upside down to find a screw similarly fitting the hinge of Allan's broken glasses.
"What glasses?" Cole asked.
I answered all of a sudden "I fixed his glasses. They weren't damaged. Just the screw came out of the hinge. No big."
"But his glasses fell from the ledge. Strange how there was no harm done to the lenses." Cole couldn't shut his mouth up for a second.
I can't tell Allan about the ledge. It will shake him. He doesn't remember going to the ledge and he also doesn't remember almost falling down from the ledge. And I don't want him to remember cus that shit would be scary and traumatising.
"Wait. What ledge?" TOO LATE. He was already curious. What the fuck do I say now?
"We went to the school roof last night Allan." I spoke quick so Cole won't utter more shit "Your glasses fell down. And then you were drunk so you passed out in Cole's car." I tried to laugh a bit in between so I seemed normal "And then we dropped you home."
Cole was staring at me and everyone else at the table-Bram, Maddie and Ali were just super confused.
Allan looked really confused but somehow managed to ask "Wait so did you guys... umm put me to bed too?"
Cole understood why I wasn't telling Allan about how he could've fallen down from the ledge. It would just ruin him. How would you tell someone they were about to die a few hours ago anyways?
"Guilty." Cole said.
"And you drool. Just a little." I joked and everyone laughed. Allan laughed too. But it was clear that he was still confused.
