She'd been texting him all day long. It was like Hamden High's queen just got a little too cozy with Jace's good old friend.
Gavin seemed equaly intrigued by Ashley's charms. How could he not be? Everyone was intrigued by Ashley.
He called her that evening while she drove to the bookshop. "I wasn't expecting this." She said, taking a turn on the Elm street.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"Driving to work. What about you?" She asked, distracted.
"I'm bored." She imagined him sitting on the couch and watching some sports. Or maybe playing his guitar up in his bedroom.
"Uh-huh!" She said as she parked.
"Eh! Should I call you later?" He asked.
"Uh... No no! Keep talking. I was just parking." She got out of her car and walked into Barnes & Noble as the wind chimes over the entrt rang. She walked up to the back room and quickly started picking out the new stock from the boxes and started taking it to the shelves at the back end of the store.
"How's the bookstore?" He asked, not knowing what else to talk about.
"It's nice? Just like usual?" She answered as she started to walk towards the back room again to get another stack of the books.
"My ex lived in New Haven." He said.
"Oooh!" She managed to hold the phone as she picked the books up. She smiled at Quinton who was standing behind the counter as she walked out. He smiled back.
"Okay are you rushing around the bookstore?" Gavin asked.
"Umm kinda yeah.." She spoke and he waited for her to complete. "I'm setting up the new stock that came in early this morning."
"Oh!" He paused. "I don't remember the name of the bookstore." He giggled.
"How hard.... could it possibly be?" She spoke as Quin walked to her with another stack of the books.
"I don't read books. They're long." He said. "But I guess it was The Yale Bookstore?"
"Right." She laughed. "Drop by. It's not that far away."
Quin looked at her with a strange expression. She shrugged and blushed.
"Sure! And what would we be doing?" Gavin asked.
"I don't know. I could get you some short books that you could read?" She spoke and Gavin sighed on the other end. "Alright. Okay, no books." She smiled. "We could go to this place. It's got good Indian food. What was its name? Uhh..."
"Sherkan." Quin said as he chuckled. Ashley blushed.
"Sherkan. Yeah! We could go there. It's open till late." She told Gavin on the phone.
