"You should try out for the team Jace." Some girl sitting next to Bram suggested. She said it like she knew I was good at sports.
We were in the cafeteria, at the lunch table. I was sitting next to to Cole and the seat next to him on the other side was empty. Bram was sitting on the opposite side of me and next to him was this girl whose name i so absent-mindedly forgot. Next to her, in the seat was this nerdy guy with glasses bigger than his face. His name was bryan or something. Who cares. The cafeteria was flooded with students. And most of them were staring at our table. There was a whole lot of crowd at Hamden High. Way more than North Haven High. New school, new territories.
"He sure should! He doesn't seem like a guy who plays clarinet in the band." Cole giggled. Everyone else at the table started laughing. Even the nerdy guy was laughing. I side eyed all of them and got back to my soda. I wasn't precisely hungry to be accurate. Mr. Sanderson already spoiled my day with the trash talk we had back there in his cabin. So i just got a soda.
"By the way" The girl next to bram spoke "Jenna was clearly checking you out in the English lesson today." She was looking at me. Smile on her face, almost reaching her eyes. A small itch in my throat arised.
"Jenna Hall? Seriously?" The nerdy guy asked all so curiously.
"Woah. You sure dude?" Cole asked the girl.
"Yeah. Duh!" She answered
"Well who the fuck even is Jenna?" I asked, effing confused." And well, girls are always attracted to me, it's no big deal."I smirked while boasting. It was true nonetheless. "Ask her" I pointed towards the girl sitting next to Bram "Isn't she attracted to my charms ?"
Everyone burst into a chaotic laugh and my ass sitting there was trying to figure out what the joke was. "What?!"
Bram answered, still laughing "Our friend here" He wrapped his arm around the girl seated next to him "Maddie Whitz" Oh so that was her name "Is a lesbian"
Oh. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
"Shoot I didn't know." This was a bit embarrassing somehow.
"It's fine." Maddie chuckled.
My phone in my pocket started vibrating. I took it out and looked at it. It's mom. Why is she calling me?! She never calls until and unless she wants some work to be done.
"I am gonna head out and take this. Be right back." I say as i jump up from my seat and rush to the hallway.
"You have to go, Jace!" She sounded affirmative.
"Go where mom?!"
"The centre." As soon as i hear her say this, I almost laugh. Is she high or something? Does she even know what she's talking about?
"Why the fuck are you laughing Jace?"
"Why are you so concerned all of a sudden? Are you high?" I still couldn't stop laughing.
"I cannot afford you getting thrown out from this school as well. So now shut the hell up and Cole is driving you to the centre after work." She sounded pissed. That's new.
"But i don't..." As soon as i started speaking again she hung up. I fucking hate my mother goddamnit.
I walked to the cafe door but something seemed weird. Lunch doesn't get over in at least 20 minutes. why was everyone so silent. I looked at their faces. Everyone had a shocked-as-fuck reaction as the were staring at something to my right.
I turn and go to my table. But to my shock I see Cole standing next to the table in a weird style. His face filled with anger. He looked wet. As if he just spilled water. But how could he spill water (or whatever it was) on his own head and face!
"What the fuck just happened here?!" I asked but then i realised i shouldn't have.
