I had fallen asleep. Jace woke me up when we were right outside his dad's house.
"Seriously? You couldn't have woken me up earlier?" I scream looking into the mirror in front of the passenger seat.
"Stop obsessing over your hair. You look fine." He giggled.
"You're stupid. Do you know how big of a deal this is?" I growled.
"You're acting like a kid Allan." I caught him looking at me, smiling.
He was happy I was here. He told me he didn't want to do this. He told me he didn't want to come here. Jace didn't really have the healthiest of relationships with his dad.
"We're gonna be fine stupid." I laid my hand on his.
"I know." He looked at me. He was clearly nervous.
Soon we were outside the door. I rang the doorbell. The house was huge. I could call it a mansion but I preferred not to.
"You seriously had to get the flowers, huh?" He said referring to the bouquet in my hand.
"You don't go empty-handed to someone's house for the first time." I slightly punched my fist into his arm.
"Especially a house so big." He commented.
"Jace!" I looked at him.
"Okay okay!" He said.
The door cracked open as a lady in a silver dress smiled at us both.
"Jace! Come in! Come in!" She looked young. In her thirties I assume.
"And I suppose you're Allan. I'm Nancy." She held me by my arm. It took me for a surprise but it was okay. "Show them to their room please." She told to who I suppose was a staff member. A house so big needed the staff.
"Rooms?" Jace asked, not so enthusiastic to meet his stepmom.
"Your father's gone out for some important work Jace. He'll be back soon." Jace didn't look so satisfied by what she told us.
"He's here!" A little boy came in running from somewhere. A little girl behind her.
Jace went down on his knees and opened his arms as both the kids ran into him for a hug. The site was adorable. He looked cute with kids. I'm assuming handling me only made him better at it.
"Why didn't you come earlier?" Asked the little girl in pink.
"Kids! Let your brother relax. He's traveled a long way."
"No, It's fine." He said looking at her. "So tell me how did you kids spent New Year's Eve."
"Dad got us a lot of gifts!" The cute little boy told him. "Come! Let us show you!" He held Jace by his arm and started pulling him away from where we all stood.
He gave me a quick nod and I smiled at him as the two pulled him away and he disappeared into the hallway.
"Nathan and Nivaeh just love Jace." Nancy held me again. "They were so excited when I told them he was coming for a day. Let's go?"
I didn't exactly know where she was taking me but I followed without asking. She took me through a few hallways and up a massive staircase. We passed a few rooms and then she finally opened the door to one of them.
"Here. You can freshen up." She gestured towards the room. "I've had the room a little far from the kids' bedrooms. I really don't want them to bother you two."
"Thank you!" I said, having nothing else to say.
Nancy left me in the room. I think this is where Jace stayed whenever he came here. The was a frame by the side table. It had a photo of Jace standing with Nathan and Navaeh in it.
Jace walked in a few minutes later. "The kids are so excited. Navaeh won't stop talking about her dolls and Nathan is just so addicted to that kid's TV show. I love spending time with these two. Why don't I come here more? Ugh!"
"Well your mood seems to be good now." I got off the bed to stand next to him.
"Yeah! It—" Someone cut him off.
"Jace!" A man stood in front of us at a distance. I assumed it was Mr. Gray.
