Chapter 43

"I'll see you later mom" I said as I walked out the front door before walking to Edwards Volvo where he was standing by the passenger door. "Hey you" I said as I stopped in front of him and leaned up pressing my lips to his. Edward kissed me back and as we pulled away I couldn't help my smile. He opened the passenger door and I thanked him before climbing in.

He softly shut the door before suddenly appearing over at his side of the car. He climbed in and started up the car. "I still don't think your mom likes me" said Edward as we pulled out of the driveway. "What do you mean?" I asked as I looked over at him. "Her thoughts are very loud" said Edward as he chuckled and I sighed as I shook my head.

"She's just protective" I replied and Edward nodded. "I gathered that since she's already threatened my life" Edward replied and I giggled as I covered my mouth. "Ok over protective" I said. "I'm glad she's like that now though. She wasn't like this years ago. All she cared about was her boyfriend Rick not leaving her and her next hit of heroin. She's come a long way since then" I said.

We soon arrived at the Cullen's property as Edward pulled into the gravel driveway. We climbed out of the Volvo before walking into the house and up the stairs where I heard the TV. As Edward and I entered the living room, we saw Carlisle, Jasper, Emmett, Bella and Christopher sitting on the sofa watching the news.

"Seattle is in a state of terror. Police are baffled by the escalating murders and disappearances. Theories range from a vicious new gang to a wildly active serial killer. Reporting live, Dawn Shovey, CNN" I grasped onto Edward's hand trying to find a sense of comfort as I felt a small amount of fear build in my stomach.

"It's getting worse. We're going to have to do something" said Carlisle as he turned off the TV. "It takes more than one of our kind to do the damage they're reporting. Quite a few more. And they're undisciplined, conspicuous" Jasper spoke up. "It's newborns" Edward said as he stood beside me. "What like new vampires?" Bella said confused.

"The first few months after the change""That's when we're at our most uncontrollable. Vicious. Insane with thirst" said Jasper, finishing Edwards sentence. "Something to look forward to" Emmett said menacingly from his seat on the back of the sofa. "No one's trained these newborns but this isn't random" said Christopher as he turned to Carlisle.

"Someone's creating an army" Carlisle said and I scrunched my eyebrows out of disbelief and confusion. "Now we're definitely going to Seattle" Emmett said excitedly as he jumped off the couch, his signature smirk plastered on his face. "An army of vampires?" I questioned in disbelief. "And they've been created to fight someone" said Jasper.

"We're the only even close to Seattle" said Edward. "Regardless of why they were made, if we don't put a stop to them, the Volturi will. I'm surprised they let it go on for this long" Carlisle said and images of when we were in Volterra flashed through my mind quickly. "Maybe they're behind it. In Italy, I read Aro's mind. He wants me, Chris and Alice to join him. He's also desperate to get Serena to join the Volturi as he's never seen a gift as powerful as hers. He was excited for her to become a newborn to see how powerful she can become. He knows we'll never chose him as long as our family is still alive" Edward said as he looked at me and my eyes widened slightly.

"An army could solve that for him" Jasper said and I bit my bottom lip. "I don't think it's the Volturi. If they know, we won't join them if the Cullen's are still alive, what makes Aro we'll join if they're dead. If anything that would repel us more. I really think it's Victoria. Ever since James died that night in the ballet studio, Victoria has been hunting Bella and I down. Laurent told us she wanted us dead. I can't think of anyone else who would be so vengeful" I spoke up causing everyone to turn to me.

"Laurent visited you?" said Carlisle as he looked confused. "Bella and I took a walk in the woods one day and he appeared in the field. He attempted to kill us but the wolves killed him first" I explained. "He did warn us about Victoria" Bella chimed in. "Alice hasn't been seeing her in her visions" Edward said as he looked at me. "Doesn't mean she's not behind it though" I replied.

"Serena has a point Edward" said Jasper.

Later that night, I snuggled closer to Edward as we laid in my bed. "Will we ever get a happy ending?" I asked as I looked out the window of my room. "One day we will. I promise" said Edward as he draped his arm over my waist. "I feel like ever since we got together, there has just been one hurdle after the other and it feels like they're getting harder to jump over every time" I said.

"It'll all be over soon. If this army of newborns is coming for us, we'll easily be able to take them on and end this" said Edward. "I hope so" I replied. "Edward, when I become one of you, will you still love me the same?" I asked as I looked at him. "Of course I will Serena. You are my life" said Edward.

"I guess I was just worried that you wouldn't love me the same because I won't be the same Serena anymore. The Serena that you've always known" I said. "You'll always be my Serena. My Serena just less fragile" said Edward as he smiled and I leaned forward pressing my lips to his before lying back down and closing my eyes.
