"Mom?!" I breathed as tears built up in my eyes. "Serena" She said as she stepped towards me. "A-Am I dreaming?! T-This can't be real!" I exclaimed as I stepped back. "Baby, I promise it's really me" She said as she grabbed my arms. I pinched myself hard to make sure I wasn't dreaming before leaning forward hugging her tightly.
"I've missed you so much!" I cried as tears fell from my eyes. "I've missed you too!" She said back as she squeezed my to her. "I thought you were dead! I thought I was never going to see you again! What happened to you?!" I said as I pulled away. "Let's sit down" said my mom as we walked over to the couch and I sat down across from her.
"What happened that night?" I asked. "After I left home, I went to the moon bar to meet Rick. I don't remember too much but umm I remember we got into an argument outside. I can't even remember what it was over but somehow we ended up in this alley way and he began to beat me. He also had a knife and had stabbed me in the stomach. I passed out and when I came to I was in a hospital. I couldn't remember a thing. I didn't know who I was or where I was. But soon the memories came flooding back and I made up some name. After recovery, I checked myself into a rehab facility to get myself help and that's where I've been for the last year" she explained.
"Didn't people realise who you were?" I questioned and she shook her head. "No. I was living under an alias. I wanted to come forward and say who I was but I wanted to make sure I was healthy first so I could be the best mom to you" said mom. "Why didn't you reach out to me? Let me know that you were ok?" I said as I felt anger come through.
"I wanted to baby, I did but I was scared. I'm sorry I should've done that first" she said as she hung her head. "It's ok. You're here now and that's all I care about" I replied. I looked at her and realised she looked different to the last time I saw her. Her hair was fuller and healthy, the scar on her left cheek that she had since childhood was gone, and her skin was perfectly clear as if it were porcelain with no discolouration.
"What happened to the scar on your cheek?" I said as I looked at it. "Oh umm the doctors gave me some cream that helped clear up my drug scars" She said as she brought her hand up to her cheek. "I'm glad you're ok mom" I said as I held her hands and let out a gasp at how cold they were. It was as if she had stuck them in ice.
"Jesus your hands are freezing!" I exclaimed. "Oh yeah. Circulation damage from the drugs" she said as she retracted them. "Oh ok" I replied. Over the next few hours, my mom and I talked and talked catching up on the missed months. The woman sitting in front of me was not the same woman who had left over a year ago.
My mom was vibrant and happy. She smiled the smile I hadn't seen since Charlotte had died. My old mom was back. I gave a yawn and looked at the time to see it was nearing 11:00 PM. "I should probably head to bed" I said as I sat up. "Ok" said my mom as we stood up. "Uncle Waylon hasn't come back yet" I said realising he wasn't home.
"He's probably at the bar with some of his friends. You know how he can get" she said and I nodded with a smile. "Have you spoken to him?" I asked and she nodded. "Yeah. I saw him in town earlier and explained everything to him. He said he and I will have a discussion tomorrow so I can get up to date with you and then you can move back in with me. I just bought a house here in town" said mom and I smiled.
"You ok sleeping on the couch?" I asked and she nodded. I leaned forward hugging her once more. "I'm so glad you're back mom" I replied. "I am too baby" she replied. We pulled away and I turned walking to the stairs. "Mom?" I said as I turned back looking at her. "Yes?" she said as she looked up at me. "Promise you won't leave?" I said. "I promise my love. Go get some sleep and I'll see you in the morning" she replied.
"Ok" I said before walking up the stairs to my room. I closed the door and changed into my pyjamas before climbing into bed. I can't believe my mom was alive and back. It was like a crazy dream.
