Edward's P.O.V
Jacob's thoughts filled my mind and I walked out onto the balcony to see he and Seth approaching the house before he stopped 20 feet away. He knows Jacob said in his mind and I clenched my jaw realising what this meant. "Get ready" he said as he nodded in my direction. "They're coming for Serena" he continued. "They're not gonna touch her" I said.
"Agreed" Jacob replied and I turned heading back into the house. "Sam knows. The pack is coming for our family" I said as I entered the living. "What?! How?!" said Esme. "He read Jacob's mind when Jacob phased. Jacob has stepped away from the pack and will be on our side along with Seth Clearwater" I explained.
"Do we know when he will attack?" Carlisle asked as he crossed his arms. "No. But I think he's going to wait us out and strike at the right time" I replied. After a few more minutes Jacob re-entered the living room and sat on the couch. "I know his plan. Sam's lost the element of surprise and he doesn't want to take you on outnumbered so he's not going to come at you head on. He's got the place surrounded and he'll wait for his opportunity" Jake explained as he looked at us.
"We won't get through without a fight" said Emmett. "No fights. We won't be the ones to break the treaty" said Carlisle. "The treaty is void, at least in Sam's mind" Jacob replied. "Not in ours" said Esme as she looked at him. "Carlisle, no ones hunted for weeks" said Emmett as he stepped forward. "We'll make do" Esme replied as she looked at him.
"To ensure there are no near misses, Bella will need to stay as far away from Serena as possible until we're able to go hunting again" I said as I looked at Bella and she nodded as she held onto Chris' hand. "You've done us a great service Jacob. Thank you" said Carlisle as he nodded at Jacob.
As the days passed, Serena got weaker and weaker. Her body became more skeletal as her stomach grew more and more. Her face had become gaunt, her fingers, skinny and boney. Moving on her own became more strenuous on her with near falls and stumbles. She was also unable to eat any food anymore. The moment she swallows anything, it immediately comes back up.
To prevent her body from shutting down, Carlisle had given her a drip of fluids to keep her hydrated. With the threat of attack being a constant fear, Emmett had taken a permanent position pacing by the windows or outside on the balcony watching for any movement. Esme, Rosalie, and Angelica barely left Serena's side and they panicked at any noise or groan of pain Serena made.
We had all spent countless hours reading books or researching online to find anything to help us but there was nothing. Only legends and tails which all ended in death. I had never felt so helpless in my life.
Serena's P.O.V
"Another rib has cracked but there are no splinters. You haven't punctured anything" said Carlisle as he looked from my X ray to me. "Yet" said Edward and I turned to him. "Edward" Carlisle said quietly. "It's breaking her bones now. It's crushing you from the inside out" said Edward bitterly as he turned to me.
My mom squeezed my hand and I looked up at her as I bit my bottom lip. "Carlisle, tell her what you told me. Tell her" said Edward as he looked at Carlisle only for him to remain silent. "You can tell me Carlisle" I said as I looked at him and he walked over to me. "The fetus isn't compatible with your body. It's too strong. It won't allow you to get the nutrition you need. It's starving you by the hour. I can't stop it and I can't slow it down" said Carlisle and I swallowed hard as I felt my eyes sting with tears.
"At this rate, your heart will give out before you deliver" said Carlisle. "There's nothing you can do? Not even venom?" I whimpered as I looked up at Carlisle and he shook his head. "I'm sorry Serena. There are some cases not even venom can overcome" said Carlisle before he left the room. "Could you give us a minute?" I whispered to my mom and she nodded before exiting the room.
"Edward I'm so sorry" I said as I looked over at him. "I can't live without you" he whispered. "You'll apart of me. You'll have our baby" I said as he looked out the window. "Do you honestly think that I could love it or even tolerate it if it killed you?" he said as he looked at me. "Our baby will need you Edward. It's not the it's fault. You just have to accept what is" I pleaded.
"BECAUSE YOU'VE GIVEN ME NO CHOICE!" Edward called causing me to jump. "Serena, we're supposed to be partners remember? But you decided this on your own. You decided to leave me and I don't choose that" said Edward as he walked to the door. "Edward, I'm sorry" I cried before he left the room and I cried into my hands.
Angelica's P.O.V
I waited outside the room before the door swung open and Edward stormed out. "Hey!" I snapped as I followed him out of the house. "Who to hell do you think you are yelling at my daughter like that?!" I snapped. "This is none of your business Angelica!" said Edward as he turned to me.
"When it comes to my daughter that's when it becomes my business hijo de puta! (mother f*cker!) And for you to yell at her like that?! That's the last thing she needs to deal with right now Edward! It takes to people to have sex and create a baby. She didn't do this on her own! You both played an equal part in this" I exclaimed as I glared at him.
"She had a choice to get rid of it! She had a choice and she chose not to and now she is going to die. She chose to leave me" said Edward as he turned to me. "This isn't just about you! If she dies, she'll be leaving everybody! Everyone in that house cares for Serena. Loves her. And if she dies, you won't be the only one hurting and alone. I will be losing my only daughter, that baby she is carrying will lose its mother! This isn't just about you Edward. Not once have I seen you console Serena or tell her everything will be ok or back her up on this. Instead you have sulked in a corner and felt sorry for yourself!" I snapped and he remained silent.
"She needs you now more then ever Edward. If you truly love her like I know you do, then be there for her. Be the husband she needs. Be the Edward she fell in love with" I said before turning and walking back into the house.
