I pulled in, out the front of Bella's house and climbed out of my car. I walked up to the front door and knocked before stepping back as I waited for someone to answer. The door opened and I saw Bella standing there with a backpack on. "Oh hey Serena" she said as she ran a hand through her hair. "Hey Bella. I was going to see if you wanted to hang out. But it looks like you've got other plans" I said as looked at her.
"Oh yeah. I'm just gonna take a walk in the woods" said Bella and I scrunched my eyebrows. "What?! Bella do you know how dangerous that is with all of the animal attacks?!" I said as I looked at her. "I'll be fine" she said as she adjusted her backpack. "Let me come with you. No offence Bella but you sort attract danger like a magnet" I said and she gave an awkward smile. "Ok" said Bella.
I gave a nod before she walked out of her house and shut the door, locking it behind her. I walked with Bella into the woods, sticks and leaves crunching under my feet. "Everything ok?" I asked as Bella remained silent. "Bella? What's wrong?" I asked. "It's Jake. He ended our friendship" said Bella and I scrunched my eyebrows.
"What? Why?" I questioned. "Because he doesn't want to hurt me" Bella replied. "Oh. That doesn't make sense" I said as we continued to walk. "I know" said Bella before she nearly tripped over a log. I grabbed her arm, stabilising her before we continued walking. "Where are we going?" I asked. "Somewhere Christopher used to take me" said Bella.
"It isn't a beautiful flower field is it?" I questioned and Bella turned to me with confusion written all over her face. "You've been there?" She asked and I nodded. "Edward used to take me there sometimes" I replied. "Oh" said Bella. "I've been meaning to come here for...closure I guess but never built up the courage" I said as I stepped over a branch.
"That's sort of why I'm going" said Bella and I nodded before we continued walking. After 20 minutes we broke through the woods and my heart broke at the sight of the once wistful and mesmerising field.
The beautiful coloured flowers amongst the ocean of lush green grass was nothing more then small mounds of dried up weeds. "No" I whispered as I walked forward. The last memory I had of Edward was gone. Bella bent down beside me gripping the dead grass in her hands. I fought the tears as I looked around until my eyes landed on him. Laurent.
I let out a gasp as Bella stood up beside me, her eyes landing on him as well. "Serena. Bella" said Laurent as he looked at us. "Laurent" Bella replied. He suddenly appeared a few feet away from us send a shiver of fear down my spine. "I went to visit the Cullen's but their house is empty" said Laurent as he looked at Bella and I.
"I'm surprised they left the two of you behind. Aren't you both sort of um...pets of theirs?" He continued as he circled us. "I guess you could say that" I said masking the fear in my voice with confidence. "Do the Cullens visit often?" Laurent asked, a small smirk on his face. "Lie..." a familiar voice said and I fought the scream that wanted to leave my mouth as I saw ghost like form of Edward standing slightly in front of me.
"Yeah we see them all the time""Lie better..." "I can let them know you stopped by if you want" I continued as I looked at Laurent. "We probably shouldn't tell Christopher or Edward cause they're pretty protective" said Bella as she caught onto what I was doing. "Yeah. I probably shouldn't mention anything to my mom either. She has really good tracking skills" I said and I watched as Laurent smirks.
"Ah yes. Your mother Angelica am I right? " said Laurent and I gave a nod. "Yes. James did tell me about her and her mate Carlos" said Laurent. "Yeah. She'd know if something happened to me and who did it in an instant" I said, a warning tone in my voice as he continued circling Bella and I. Bella remained silent behind me. "What are you doing here in Forks?" I questioned at Laurent.
"I came as a...favour to Victoria" said Laurent and I felt my heart race at the sound of her name. "Victoria" said Bella. "She asked me to see if the both of you were still under the protection of the Cullens. Victoria feels it is only fair to kill Edward and Christophers mates given they killed hers. An eye for an eye..." said Laurent and I felt the panic set in.
"Makes the world blind. K-Killing Bella and I isn't going to bring James back and if anything, it'll bring her an early death!" I argued back. "They would know who did it! They'll come after you!" Bella added, her voice shaking. "I don't think they will. After all, how much could you mean to them if they left you here, unprotected. Oh, Victoria won't be happy of my killing of both of you. But I can't help myself. You're both so mouthwatering" said Laurent.
"Please don't! I mean, you helped us!" Bella pleaded. "W-Why would you help us and then want to kill us?!" I exclaimed. "No, no, no, shh shh. Don't be afraid, I'm doing the both of you a kindness. Victoria plans on killing you slowly, painfully" whispered Laurent as he suddenly appeared in front of Bella and I.
"Whereas, I'll make it quick. I promise. You will feel nothing" he continued. I felt my mind race as I weighed up my options. There was no way I could escape. Laurent would catch me before I even make it into the woods. If he let us go, Victoria would just hunt us down and we'd suffer and fate worse then death in her hands. "Ok" I whispered as I looked up at him.
Laurent stepped back and I closed my eyes. "I'm sorry mom" I whispered before bracing for death when a growl came from the edge of the trees. "I don't believe it" said Laurent as he turned in the direction of the growls. My heart raced as I watched the trees move as a huge jet black wolf emerged. Slowly, more wolves appeared behind the black one, all ranging from brown to silver.
The black wolf let out a monstrous growl. My eyes widened in shock at the sight in front of me. Before I knew it, Laurent took off from in front of Bella and I sprinting into the woods. The black wolf immediately chased after him, the other wolves following in toe. One rustic colours wolf stopped in front of Bella looking at her for a few moments and I held my breath as I waited for it to maul her before it follow after the other wolves.
I watched in shock as Laurent turned and punched the black wolf sending it flying through the air and landing hard on the ground in front of Bella and I. The wolf immediately stood up and sprinted after Laurent once more snapping me out of my chance. "RUN!" I screamed before taking off in the other direction of the woods.
Bella followed in suit as we took off running in the direction we came in. Within minutes we made it back to Bella's house and I followed behind her as she burst into her house. She ran to the kitchen where I saw her dad and another man. "Dad I saw them!" exclaimed Bella causing her dad to look confused. "In the woods! They're not bears!" said Bella.
"What do you mean in the woods? Girls what the hell were you doing out in the woods?!" said Chief Swan as he looked at me too. "They're wolves! I mean they're like, huge wolves!" said Bella ignoring her dads statement. "Are you sure about that Bella?" asked the other man as he looked at her suspiciously. "Yeah we just saw them! They were after...something" I said catching myself.
"Wolves? You girls saw 'em? Alright well, Harry? Feel like going hunting? Get some of your guys together?" said Chief Swan as he turned to 'Harry'. "Sure yeah. I'll just uh..." said Harry before he walked off. "I should go to the station" said Chief Swan as he stood up. "Yeah you should...should go" said Bella awkwardly.
"Can you two just stay out of the woods?" said Chief Swan and I nodded. Once he left, Bella turned to me. "I cannot believe that just happened" I said as I ran a hand through my hair. "I know. By now those wolves will have been killed by Laurent and he'll already be on his way to tell Victoria we're unprotected" said Bella and I felt my stomach flip.
