It had been a week since my moms return. She had been staying at the house with my uncle and I whilst she settled in. After her return, my uncle's house was bombarded by reporters and journalists. It had finally died down as the second week rolled around. Every morning I would wake up thinking it was all a dream but thankfully it's not.
I walked downstairs in my pyjamas and saw my mom talking to my uncle. "Morning" I said. "Morning" They said at the sometime. "I made you guys breakfast" she said as she pointed to the plate of bacon and eggs on the table with a cup of OJ. "Thanks" I said before sitting down and beginning to eat.
"I'm heading off to work then I'm going for a fish tonight so I'll be back late" said Uncle Waylon. "Ok. Have fun and bring back something for tomorrow nights dinner" I said as he walked to the front door. "Hopefully I'll catch something bigger then Phil this time" He said before walking out the door and I laughed.
"You'll love our new home. Better then the last one in Seattle. It's two story, you have your own ensuite and it's near your school" said mom and I smiled. "How was your shift last night at the hospital?" I asked as I continued eating. "Yeah it was busy that's for sure. There's a stomach bug going around. So many patients puking" Mom said and I giggled. Since my mom's return, the went back to her old job, nursing.
"Where's your breakfast?" I asked. "O-Oh umm I already ate before you woke" she replied. "Oh ok" I said as I finished up. "It looks like a beautiful day today, we should go for a run in the woods after school like old times" I said as I put my cutlery together. "I can't sorry. I have a late shift tonight at the hospital. With all these animal attacks, they need all the help they can get" mom replied and I nodded.
I stood up from the table and went to wash my dishes when my mom quickly picked them up. "I'll do them. You go get ready for school" she said and I smiled before walking upstairs. Forks is a small town and word would've gotten out that my mom was alive. I got dressed for school before walking downstairs with my bag.
"I'll see you after school mom" I said as I saw her washing my dishes in the kitchen. "Ok sweetheart. Have a good day" she said as she walked over and wrapped me in a hug. I hugged her back before walking outside to my car. I climbed in and started it up before driving to school. The sun was shining bright today, a very big change from Forks usual weather of clouds and rain.
As my friends and I basked in the sun outside during lunch, I looked around hoping to see the familiar mop of brown hair but I didn't. "He's not here" said Jess causing me to turn to her. "Whenever the weather's nice, the Cullen's disappear" said Jess. "What, do they just ditch?" Bella asked from beside me as she pulled the sticker from her green apple.
"No, um, Dr and Mrs Cullen yank them out for like hiking and camping and stuff. I tried that out on my parents, not even close""Guys! I'm going to the prom with Eric! I just asked him, I took control" Angela said excitedly, cutting Jess off as she ran over. "I told you that would happen" I said as she hugged me. "Are you sure you guys can't come?" asked Angela as she looked at Bella and I.
"I can't sorry Ange" I said and she sighed. "Ok. We should go shopping in Port Angeles before all the good dresses get cleaned out" Jess said before the bell rang. "Port Angeles? Mind if I come?" Bella asked. "Uh yeah I need your opinion" Angela said as she stood up. "Serena, you wanna come?" Angela asked as she looked over at me. "Sure why not?" I said as I stood up and we headed back into the school out of the nice warm sun.
Later that day, we drove into Port Angeles so that Angela and Jess could find their dresses for the prom. I sat across from Bella, leaning against the window and I fiddled with the sleeves of my shirt. "Ok, I like this one, it makes my boobs look good" said Jess and I looked up to see her in a dark pink, tight dress that left little to the imagination.
Suddenly there was a tap on the window and I looked up to see a group of guys. "Hey! Nice!" One of them cat called as they walked past. One of them tapped the screen at me and winked causing me to flip him off. "That is uncomfortable" Jess said out of embarrassment. "That's disgusting" said Bella. "Guys, what do you think?" said Jess as she turned to us.
"That looks great" said Bella dully. "Yeah I agree" I said, not really interested. I didn't know why I tagged along. "You guys have said that about the last five dresses though" said Jess as she gave a nervous laugh. "I thought they were all pretty good" I said. "You're not really into this are you?" said Angela as she looked at Bella and I.
"I actually just really wanna go to this bookstore. Umm I'll meet you guys at the restaurant?" said Bella as she gathered her things. "I'll come" I said, jumping at the chance to leave. "You sure?" asked Jess. "Yeah, yeah. We'll see you guys soon" said Bella before we left. "So what bookstore are you looking for?" I said as we walked.
"Uhh this store called Thunderbird and Whale. I just wanna find this book" said Bella. "What book?" I pressed on. "It's a book about Quileute legends. I sort of want to get more context around what Jacob was saying" said Bella as we walked. "About...the cold ones?" I questioned and Bella nodded.
"I- call me crazy, but I think there might be some truth to the story Jacob was telling us at the beach the other day" Bella said quietly as we walked past some people. "What do mean?" I said confused as we walked up a hill. "There's something off about the Cullen's. I don't know what it is. Christopher is in my biology class. When I speak to him, it's like I'm talking to someone from a different time. Like the other day, he was talking about someone and called them a 'bluenose' " said Bella and I scrunched my eyebrows.
"What in the hell is a bluenose?" I asked confused. "Right? I did some research and found it was slang from the 20's. I think it's um...it's um another word for prude" said Bella. "I thought it was so strange to hear someone from the 21st century say a word from nearly 100 years ago and yesterday, our arms accidentally touched in class and he was freezing cold like it was like I was touching cold cement" said Bella.
"So you want to find this book to make sure you're not going crazy?" I said and she nodded. I then began to think about Edward. "Am I the only one who noticed the change in their eye colour too?" I asked and Bella turned to me. "I literally thought that was just me" she said. "Right! When I asked Edward he said it was the fluorescents in the lights" I replied.
"See what I mean? There's something strange about them" said Bella and I nodded. But it wasn't just Edward I was thinking of who was different...
