Later that day I had my last period, biology. I swapped my books before closing my locker and heading to the classroom with Mike. "Mr Molina" said Mike gesturing to me as the teacher turned. "Ahh yes Miss Fernandez-Forge" he said as I stepped forward looking at the class. My eyes landed on Edward and I watched as he suddenly tensed, covering his mouth and nose as the fan blew past me.
I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion as I stepped towards Mr Molina. "Hi, can I have your pass?" He asked and I handed him the slip of paper. "Thank you. Welcome to the class. Here's your stuff I've got a seat for you right here" said Mr Molina as I followed him to the desk Edward was sitting at. "Just follow along until you catch up" said Mr Molina.
"Thanks" I replied before he walked to the front of the class. Mr Molina placed some stuff on our desk as he walked past and I quickly glanced at Edward. He looked as if he was extremely uncomfortable and as his hand stayed covering his mouth. I shifted in my seat moving away from him slightly. He pushed my glass towards me and grabbing his and I noticed the thick black crest band on his wrist.
He removed his hand from his mouth and I watched as it gripped the table, scrunching his papers. What is this guys deal?! I thought to myself. Throughout the class I could feel Edward's glare fixated on me but I paid no mind to it. Just as the bell rang, Edward got up out of his seat hastily causing me jump slightly as he stalked out of the classroom.
On my drive home from school, I couldn't stop thinking how weird Edward's actions were in biology. I arrived home and saw uncle Waylon's truck parked out the front. I entered the small house and saw my uncle in the kitchen with his fishing box washing some knives. "Hey kiddo" he said as he turned to me, a smile on his face.
"Hey uncle Waylon" I replied back with the same smile. "How was your first day?" He asked as he tried his fishing knife off with a rag. "Yeah it was alright I guess. Made some new friends" I shrugged. "Well that's good. I was thinking we should go to the cafe for dinner tonight" said my uncle and I nodded. "I'm willing to eat anything besides spam and eggs" I joked.
"Hey it's a good meal and the only thing I can cook" said uncle Waylon and I laughed before making my way upstairs to my room. My room was nothing fancy. Before I moved in it was my uncles junk room filled with old boxes from the one semester he spent at college, childhood things and other old stuff. After I moved in, I tried my best to make it feel homely but with the little space I have, it was a bit hard.
I threw my bag onto the end of my bed before sitting down. I laid back onto my pillows and blew a raspberry from my lips. I rolled onto my side and looked at the photo of my mom, Charlotte and I from when we were 5. Mom was holding both of us in her lap, one arm wrapped around the front of each of us, a big smile on her face.
Back when life was simpler and I was whole person. After a few hours I headed back downstairs where my uncle was waiting by the front door. "Ready for dinner?" He asked and I nodded. I grabbed my coat from the hook, slipping it on as we walked outside to the truck. I climbed in the passenger side as uncle Waylon started the truck up.

I watched from the edge of the trees as the truck pulled out of the driveway. As it disappeared from sight, I leapt up to Serena's bedroom window. I held onto the frame, the wood creaking as it did, and slid her window open. I stepped into her room and looked around. The walls were littered with patches and stains.
I looked down at her bedside table and picked up the picture frame. As I turned it over, I saw the photo that was inside and a smile formed on my face. So young and innocent I thought before placing it back. I picked up one of the light blue pillows from the bed and placed it to my nose taking a sniff of her scent. The familiar smell of floral shampoo filled my nostrils and I placed it back down on her bed.
The distance warmth still lingered on my fingertips from her sitting there. After a couple more moments I decided it was time for me to leave. I climbed back out the window and closed it before leaping down to the ground and resuming my place between the trees awaiting her return.

"Here is your chicken burger Serena and here is your steak with mash potatoes" said Cora as she placed our food in front of us. "Thank you" I said before cutting my burger in half. "Hey Serena, why don't you come and say hello to my good friend Charlie and his daughter?" said Uncle Wyatt as he stood up. I stood up and followed him as we walked to the other side of the cafe.
We approached a table where I saw a middle aged man wearing a dark grey sweater with a moustache and black greying hair. Beside him I saw Bella and instantly saw the resemblance. "Hey Bella! You remember me?" said uncle Waylon as I stood behind him. Bella looked to her dad with an awkward smile. "I played Santa one year" said my uncle.
"Yeah Waylon, she hasn't had a Christmas here since she was four" said the man. "I bet I made an impression though didn't I?" Uncle Waylon said. "You always do" said the man as he shook salt on his fries. "Butt crack Santa?" said Bella and I giggled. "Hey kids love those little bottles though. Anyways, Serena, this is Chief Charlie Swan and his daughter Bella. Charlie, Bella, this is my niece Serena" said uncle Waylon as he stepped back placing his hand on my shoulder.
Surprise filled Bella's eyes as she turned to me. "Hey Bella, and it's nice to meet you chief Swan" I said. "You two know each other?" said Charlie as he looked at Bella. "Uh yeah Serena and I go to school together. We were both new kids today" Bella replied. "Serena? Angelica's daughter. Now I remember you" said Charlie as he looked at me and I sucked in a sharp breath.
"Umm...yeah" I said as I averted my eyes to the ground. "I just wanted to let you know that we're not giving up on finding your mom. We will get to the bottom of what happened to her" said Charlie and I gave a small smile. "Thanks. Uncle Waylon, why don't we leave Bella and her dad to enjoy their meal now? Our foods getting cold" I said as I tuned to my uncle.
"Ok. I'll see you round Charlie and it was nice seeing you again Bella" said uncle Waylon as we walked away.
