As the weeks passed, everything was falling into place. Leah, Seth, and Jacob had reconciled with Sam and his pack. Even the Volturi had accepted Bella and I's new statuses however, they'd want proof eventually. We only had one enemy left. The unknown. Masen and Colette were ageing at an exceeding rate. Within the matter of weeks they had aged 4 years.
The most daunting thing I have to do everyday is put my children to bed and know that when they wake up in the morning, they will have aged some more. We didn't know how long we had with them. Carlisle spent countless hours looking through books and researching online to find any source of information but found nothing.
"Who's ready to build a snowman?" I said as I walked into the living room where Edward, Masen and Colette were putting together a puzzle whilst Jacob and Leah sat on the couch watching them. "Me!""Me!" said Masen and Colette as they jumped up and down excitedly causing me to giggle. "Ok. Let me go call abbi (short for abuelita) and see if she's ready to go" I said.
I grabbed my phone from my pocket before texting my mom. "Ok abbi is on her way so let's get your coats and boots on" I said. "Here's your jacket Mase and here's yours Coco. Uh Colette, I told you to change your socks sweetie. You can't play in the snow with socks that have holes in them" I said. "Sorry mommy. I forgot" she said and I smiled.
"It's ok. Go choose some new ones" I said and she skipped down the hallway. I heard a knock on the front door and turned to open it revealing my mom. "Hey mom" I said as I let her inside. "Hello bebita" she said as she hugged me. We pulled away and she gasped as she turned to Masen.
"¡Bueno, no te ves guapo! ¡Amo ese abrigo en ti, mi hombrecigo! (Well don't you look handsome! I love that coat on you my little man!)" said my mom as she bent down to Masen as he hugged her. "Gracias abuela" said Masen and I smiled. "Where's my Coco?" said my mom as she stood up. "I'm here!" said Colette as she ran from the hallway and into my moms arms.
"Cómo estás mi princesita? (How are you my little princess?) " said my mom as she picked up Colette and spun her around before she put her down. "¡Estoy emocionado de construir el - mommy?" she said as she turned to me before grabbing my hand. How do I say biggest snowman in Spanish? she asked mentally as she looked at me.
"muñeco de nieve más grande" I whispered in her ear. "¡Estoy emocionado de construir el muñeco de nieve más grande! (I'm excited to build the biggest snowman!)" said Colette and my mom smiled. "¡Tu español se está volviendo tan bueno mis amores! (Your Spanish is getting so good my loves!)" said my mom as she smiled at the both of them.
"Ok guys say bye to daddy and then we'll go" I said as I slipped on my coat. The two of them ran over to Edward and hugged him. "I'll see you two later" he said as he kissed them both on the head before they ran back over to my mom and I. I walked over to Edward and he pecked my lips. "We won't be long" I said and he nodded before pecking my lips once more.
My mom, Leah, Jacob, Colette, Masen and I left the house before we walked into the woods. Leah and Jacob phased into their wolf forms before bending down so that Masen and Colette could climb on. After a few minutes of walking, we made it to a small field. Masen and Colette climbed off of Leah and Seth before running into the snow.
"Has Carlisle found any answers yet?" said my mom as she stood beside me. "No. Edward said we should go back to Brazil. The native Tacuna people may have some answers or legends that could give us something" I said as I turned to her and she nodded. "Surely you and Edward aren't the only human-vampire couple to have hybrid children" said my mom.
"I know. That's what I've been thinking myself. There must be other hybrids out there. Unless the Volturi got to them or something" I said as I looked at my mom. "Or maybe the mothers and babies didn't survive the birth" she replied and I shrugged. "Who knows. All I know is that I don't want my children to die of old age in two years time" I said as I stared at Masen and Colette.
"Don't think like that Serena" said my mom as she placed her hand on my arm. "How can I not mom? They were born 2 months ago and they already look 4 years old" I said. "Have hope bebita" she said and I sighed. "Mommy look at my snowman!" Colette exclaimed excitedly. "Oh my goodness baby! It's amazing!" I said as I walked over to her.
"Mama, who's that?" I heard Masen ask and turn to see where he was looking. I looked up and saw a figure standing on the cliffs. As I took a few steps forward, I recognised her to be Irina. "I think that's our cousin from Denali" I said. "Irina!" I called up to her before I turned to my mom. "Stay with them" I said before spritining up to the top of the cliffs.
Within a matter of seconds I had made it to the top of the cliffs and looked around for Irina before I heard a splash. I ran to the cliff side and saw bubbles on the surface where Irina had jumped. I returned back to the others, my mom standing with a confused face as Masen and Colette were hugging Jacob and Leah's legs.
"What did she want?" my mom asked. "I don't know. She disappeared before I could speak to her" I said. "We should go" said my mom and I nodded. I lifted Masen and Colette onto Leah and Jacob before we headed home. Upon our arrival to the Cullen's house, Edward met us out the front. "Hey!" he said as he scooped Masen and Colette into his arms and held them.
"How was it?" he asked. "It was fun daddy! I built the biggest and bestest snowman!" said Masen and Edward smiled. "Yay buddy!" he said. "Hey, your aunt Rose is back from hunting" he said causing Colette to squeal before she jumped out of Edward's arms before running upstairs. "What about uncle Emmett?" said Masen. "He's upstairs too" said Edward.
He placed Masen down before he sprinted up the stairs, Leah and Jacob going up after them. "You ok?" Edward asked as he turned to me. "Yeah. Just saw something in the woods" I said. "What was it?" Edward asked. "Ummmm we saw Irina in the woods" I said. "Irina? What did she say?" he asked. "I didn't get a chance to speak to her before she disappeared" I replied.
"Tanya convinced Irina to come reconcile with us" said Carlisle as he hung up the phone. "It looks like she changed her mind" said Edward as he sat at the piano, Masen and Colette beside him. "Seeing Jacob and Leah must've been too much for her" said Esme as she looked at Carlisle.
"I wish I could've just talked to her and we could smooth things over" I said as I crossed my arms. "She's family. She'll come around" said Carlisle as he wrapped his arm around Esme's shoulder. Edward played a few keys on the piano and Colette and Masen turned to him, intrigued before they mimicked the keys.
I smiled as I leaned against the piano watching Edward play, Colette and Masen watching him in amazement.
