Chapter Four: Punishment

CHAPTER FOUR

PUNISHMENT 

"Ge, talon." I stilled, and slowly looked on my back.

There, a man in black tuxedo was smirking at me.

Humigpit ang hawak ko sa railings. The feet that I was about to step on the railings slowly touched the ground again. The man was looking at me as if I'm a joke. I can't see him clearly because of my tears and I can't even move a muscle. Maybe I was too shocked to see someone, while I'm at this state...I don't know.

I'm having an emotional wreckage right now, and I can't even identify my feelings. I feel numb to the point I kept staring at the man...with no emotions on my face. Nakatitig lang ako sa kaniya habang siya naman ay may nakakalokong ngisi sa kaniyang mga labi.

He looks amused, standing maybe five meters away from me.

"Tumalon ka na." He said again, as if encouraging me to jump from where am I standing. My left eyebrow moved because of curiosity. People that will see me at this state was supposed to stop me from doing this, not encouraging m me.

But I once read from the book of detectives, it's a reverse psychology. It was taught to us too in one of our classes. People are always supposed to do the opposite of what was told to them. He might be doing it to stop me.

But the thing is, I'm not attempting suicide. But I'm in the verge of it.

"I'm not..." I whispered, finally able to speak.

He chuckled, and started walking towards my direction. The playful smile on his lips remained, but as he steps closer to my place—perhaps, I can feel an unfamiliar wind, and his total appearance seems to be something strange. He's surrounded with lightnings, but I can't tell yet. The lights of the rooftop are all white and orange...I'm not sure.

"Really?" He spoke as if checking something. He looked at me in the eye as if checking something. "You hear me—or rather see me?" he asked, this time confused.

My forehead turned into a knot. What did he say?

With a safe distance, he stopped in front of me. Mas lalong lumakas ang hangin sa paligid. Now that he's closer to me, the lights I saw a while ago comes from him. I'm sure now. There are faded blue light around him.

He lifted his hand towards my face. Nang makita ko ang ginawa niya ay napa-atras ang katawan ko kahit wala na akong aatrasan pa, pero hindi nakatakas sa paningin ko ang faded lights na sumasama sa kamay niya.

Is he a grim reaper? I'm not yet dead.

But maybe this is just an illusion. Maybe my body already jumped.

But I can still feel my human body.

Natawa siya sa ginawa ko. He didn't bother to continue what he was doing when he saw my reaction. Parang sapat na ang reaction ko para masatisfy ang kung ano mang nasa isip niya.

"This is really something huh..." he said to himself while looking at the moon.

"What are you doing?" I asked him.

Napalingon siya saakin. I don't know why I suddenly felt conscious. Umiwas ako ng tingin at kaagad na pinunasan ang luha ko. Because of his presence, I suddenly became pre occupied again. Hindi ko namalayan na hindi na pala ako umiiyak.

"How ironic." He said. I can feel his stares.

Bumalik ang tingin ko sa kaniya dahil sa sinabi niya. He looks defeated while laughing. When his eyes finally settled on mine, napailing siya.
