CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE:
LOOK FORWARD
Nang makarating ako sa ibaba ay nasa salas na si Heidee. She was opening the other decorations, and she placed the Christmas tree decors, such as Christmas balls and lights. She bit her fore finger as if she was thinking. Napatingin lang siya sa akin nang inilapag ko sa sofa ang ibang decorations na dala ko.
"Nandiyan ba 'yung Christmas Tree?" she asked, pointing the paper bags on the sofa.
"Nasa buwan." I answered and opened the paper bag containing the Christmas tree.
I heard her laughed. "Are you damn jealous? If so, you shouldn't have invited me here."
"That's not it, nakakainis lang ang mukha mo ngayon."
"Ouch, pain." There's a humor in her voice.
"Enjoy the pain." I scoffed.
"H'wag ka mag-alala. Ikaw gusto 'non di ako." She teased me again, but I just ignored her.
I tried to put the thought at the back of my mind, and just focused on decorating. Heidee was the one to put the frames of the tree first, before I assisted her in building it one by one. Casper went down stairs after few minutes, carrying the paper bags that we left upstairs.
I tried to avoid his gaze, but then, was really persistent in making an eye contact with me while he was busy sorting out the decorations once again. It's like he wasn't at ease if the things around are messy, and since Heidee removed the decorations one by one, this damn ghost was busy in sorting them again.
I blinked when Casper smiled at me, as if nothing happened in my room earlier. Like he already forgot about it. I remained silent and, he talked to Heidee as we are busy setting up the tree. Tahimik din na sumasagot si Heidee, but I just don't know why I feel this way that even Casper and I wasn't talking, and even Heidee...we have this comfortable silence. It wasn't awkward at all despite of our situation.
It's like just one word from one of us, everything will click normal again.
"Ang tahimik, putcha!" Casper exclaimed that I almost jumped on my spot while putting the Christmas lights on the tree. Heidee was helping me with it and we're both silent.
We both looked at Casper, and the ground soul was holding his phone, as if scrolling.
"Huh? May wifi?!" He looked at me.
"I guess..." I just answered. Maybe my dad completed everything, and even the cable and the Netflix. He made it sure I guess, even he knows that I won't be living here, and putting up wifi, and other online devices is just a waste of money.
"Alam mo, Nemesis, dapat lagi tayong nandito eh! Mas kompleto pa rito, tapos mas komportable ka pang makagagalaw!" he said.
I just ignored him while he's busy lookin for something at the back of the TV. Maya-maya pa ay tumunog ang speaker na nakaconnect sa TV. Heidee and I just looked at him while we are busy with what we're doing.
"OKAY! WALANG MAGUGULAT!" I glared at Casper's direction when he shouted just like that. I want to throw him the Christmas balls that we bought so he would comeback to his damn senses—but I opt not to because that was his normal self.
Being a dumb ass. His dumb ass mask.
Little by little, and as I observe him closely, I can see that all he was acting up wasn't him but just his mask. He was pretending, and putting up an act as if it was a genuine smile of his, that it was really him, but everytime I looked in his eyes now, as if everything is visible.
