CHAPTER THRITY ONE:
FEAR
"Papasok ka?"
I was busy folding the blankets that we used last night when Heidee came inside the room, wearing only her bath robe. Well, Casper's in the kitchen, grabbing breakfast that Heidee prepared for us since Casper and I woke up late.
I was left alone fixing the blankets that we used as well as the comforter. Casper left it like a snake. I didn't expect that he would do such chores. He's a damn rich guy and fixing his beddings is not in his vocabulary.
"Ikaw, papasok ka?" I asked Heidee back. We're don with the school works and we're just going to come for attendance but a single absent won't hurt our grades, but then I was thinking what if our professor would surprise us with such graded recitation all of sudden even though the holiday break is just a day away. Professor's mind is unpredictable most of the time.
"Pag di ka pumasok, hindi na rin ako papasok." She answered.
I stilled when I heard what she said. I looked at her. She's looking for something inside her study drawer. Nakangisi siya sa akin.
"What?" I asked her.
She shrugged. "Sabi ko, kung papasok ka, papasok ako pero kung hindi, hindi na 'rin ako."
And I heard her right. It's like I'm hearing my friends. It's like we have united decisions and all that... but Heidee...hearing it form her, my forehead turned into a knot. She smiled at me playfully before chuckling as if she can't suppress it anymore.
"What? Surprised because we're not close enough as friends for me to say that?" She asked.
"N-no..." I denied. I titled my head slowly before continuing folding the blankets and placing them on her bed. I don't know where she places the laundry so I just put it there.
"Well," she breathes. "Not all friends are your friends, and not all acquaintances will remain acquaintances."
Heidee continue what she was doing until we're both done. Inaya niya ako ulit na mag-almusal.
"Eat before you go." she said to me before walking out of the room but I spoke.
I heave a breath. I feel embarrassed all of sudden. "Heidee." I called.
She looked back at me. "Oh?"
"Can I borrow your clothes and...uhh..." I scratch the back of my head. "Undergarments?"
She let out a small laugh. "Papasok ka?"
I nodded my head. "Our prof might give surprises..." I told her. She immediately got what I meant so I didn't have to explain. She nodded her head before finally walking out of the room.
Napatitig ako sa pintong nilabasan ni Heidee. I was just standing inside her room, as if I was dumbfounded. My mind suddenly became curious and puzzled because of what she told me. It hit me... because the friends I thought I have turned their backs on me, and those strangers whom I thought would just look at me with pity pulled me up.
I bit my lips, thinking...
Heidee, are you one of them?

"Ay, papasok ka?" Casper asked me when he saw me wore my ID after I was done taking a bath and changing clothes. He's still eating. His other hand holding a pack of Cheeze Whiz.
