CHAPTER THIRTY SIX:
SILENCE
The next day, Casper and I went to the mall to meet Heidee at 11AM. Casper was still yawning as I drove off. Nagisingan ko na lang siya na nanonood ng kung ano sa phone ko, and when I asked him what that is, he just shrugged and showed me his phone—a Korean drama, Are you human.
"Go sleep for a few minutes..." I told him. Mukhang hindi pa siya titigil kanonood kanina kung hindi pa ako nagising, and it seems like he's not even aware about the time too.
He just nodded his head before closing his eyes. He's not energetic like he used to so I just sighed. I shouldn't worry about him, but something inside me is uneasy every time I see him like this. Because I know that when he's silent and not as energetic as before, I know that something is wrong.
I just shook the thought away, and as if on cue, my phone rang. I picked it up, and I saw Heidee's name.
"What?" I asked.
"Wow. Good morning." I can hear her irritating chuckle that annoyed me in an instant.
"At the mall, already?" I asked, ignoring her remarks.
"Almost. Saan na kayo?" she asked.
"We'll be there in few minutes." I answered as I can decern the top of the mall already.
"Right, saan tayo magkikita?"
"Let's have breakfast first." I said.
Casper and I haven't had our breakfast yet since I woke up late, and I chose not too since we're meeting Heidee at this early, it would be rude of me not to ask Heidee for a breakfast, kaya kahit nagugutom na si Casper ay sabi kong sa mall na lang kami kakain.
WHEN we reached the parking lot, I woke up Casper who seem distraught. He followed me inside as if he's not in the mood. I can't help myself but to ask him while we're walking.
"Are you okay?"
Mabilis siyang napalingon sa akin. Mukhang natauhan at Nawala ang antok bigla. He glanced at me before flashing a small smile.
"Inaantok lang, babe." He answered and wrapped his arms around my shoulder.
I heave a breath, and we entered the coffee shop inside the mall where we're going to meet Heidee, and when Casper saw Heidee sipping a frappe, mabilis niyang tinanggal ang pagkka-akbay sa akin at nilapitan si Heidee. Napairap na lang ako nang wala sa sarili.
"Uy, pahingi!" Casper beamed, and picked up Heidee's drink.
Heidee ignored Casper, and smirked at me meaningfully. I looked at her flatly, not saying anything before walking towards the counter to order our breakfast, but I heard Heidee's voice talking to Casper.
"For someone who graduated with flying colors, you're pretty dumb."
"H-huh?" since it's still early, there's only few people in the shop, and the silence made me hear Casper and Heidee's voice.
"Ay pota!" natataranta ang boses ni Casper. "Sarap sana 'nung drinks mo, kaso antayin ko na lang 'yung kay Nemesis."
Heidee laughed. "Baka dumoble pait ng kape ko, Casper."
"Yawa."
Maya-maya pa ay naramdaman ko nang may umakbay sa akin. The cold yet warm touch of arms around my shoulders made me recognized it in an instant. Hindi ako kumibo hanggang sa ako na ang oorder. How weird that someone's wrapping his arm around my shoulder, while I'm talking to the innocent barista in front of me.
