CHAPTER SIXTEEN: SICK
"Hey, aren't you gonna wake up?" I asked Casper comfortably sleeping on the sofa. I almost woke up late because for almost a month that he's with me, I got used that he's the one that always wakes me up.
"Casper." I called him again but his forehead just knotted. I'm good to go already, and I'm just waiting for him to wake up so we could grab his breakfast.
I sat on the sofa and stared at him. I tapped his legs for him to wake up, but then he just ignored me. He just moaned a little before pulling the comforter up to his neck. I sighed in annoyance. I stand up and I grabbed my bag and my car keys before I left my room, but then before I can finally close the door, I looked back at Casper.
Wala sa sariling bumalik ako sa loob at ni-lock muli ang kwarto ko. I walked towards Casper and I touched his forehead.
My forehead turned into a knot when it felt hot.
"Casper." I tapped his cheek.
What's happening to him?
He didn't answer so I tapped his cheeks harder. Worry suddenly consumed me as I stared at him, and noticed his trembles. I remembered that his head is aching since yesterday, but then I didn't get worry over it that much because I know that he's a ghost. There's nothing to lose...but this is strange.
I'm worried.
"Casper..." mas nilakasan ko ang boses ko.
"Hmmm..." His eyes slowly opened, and it was disoriented before it finally focused on me. His lips slowly formed a small smile before he sighed.
"A-are you okay?" I asked.
"Papasok ka na?" he asked weakly not even minding my question.
"Answer me." I demanded.
He slowly nodded. "I'm okay." He breathes, he's trying to convince me.
"You're burning up." I told him. Umupo ako sa tapat ng ulunan niya. "Doon ka sa kama ko."
He just chuckled before moving a bit. "Damn... I feel like a sick human."
I didn't speak. I'm starting to get more curious about Casper. I noticed some attributes of Casper. His breathing, his hunger, and pain. He's like a living human. Based on the books I've read, and from different tales and sayings, they say that ghosts are like thin airs that forms a figure, but they can't feel anything. But what is this?
"You are sick..." I told him when I saw that he's slowly falling asleep again.
"Maybe..."
"Lumipat ka sa kama ko. You'd be more comfortable there..." I tried to pull him up, and gladly he did. I guided him to lay on my bed, and covered him with my comforter. He was silent the whole time.
"I'll go get you something to eat." I was about to walk when he stopped me on my wrist.
"Don't. Nandoon ang tita mo—"
"The hell I care about that." Inalis ko ang tingin ko sa kaniya.
I left my room. I sighed before my mind replayed what Casper said to me. He's already sick, and here he was. Thinking of me. My lips rose up. People are always good to you when they need you. I still feel bitter thinking why Casper's staying with me but I'm trying to put it at the back of my mind.
I will never really have someone, unless they need something from me. It's a routine. A cycle where my life would go.
My Auntie was in a hurry when I saw her at the kitchen. She pretended that she didn't saw me so it was peaceful. Pauline's classes were earlier than mine so she's gone. The helpers were cleaning the table. They looked surprised seeing me.
