.Zaina.
"You still thinking about those boys?" My mom sighed at me across the table. I guess I was a little too in my head to eat tonight.
"Ma, they're more than just those boys-" Makaylah was about to start ranting until my mom gave her a look and she went back to eating.
"No... I'm moving on, like you said." I leaned on my hand and mixed around my mashed potatoes.
"It don't look like you moving on."
"It don't feel like I am either."
"You knew them for two weeks. What did y'all do for you to be so attached?" She raised her eyebrows at me.
"Nothing. I just haven't had a real friend since Kendall. Then suddenly I had seven of them." I mumbled.
"Lucky." Kaylah glared at me. My mom just sighed and looked away.
"When is she supposed to come back anyway?"
"She said that she was gonna take a break after her undergrads. I think she's done next year in May." I answered softly.
"She likes BTS too, ya know?" Kaylah smirked. "She used to watch them with me when you wouldn't."
"Don't talk about them." My mom scolded her.
"It's useless. She's not gon take her posters down or take Yoongi's photo card outta her phone case. I gotta get past it myself."
"This is exactly why I didn't even want you to go over there. Something was bound to happen. Someone was destined to attract your attention. What am I gonna do with you?"
"What am I gonna do with me? I don't even know how to feel!" I ran my hands over my face.
"Zaina, the boys didn't do anything to purposely hurt you. I wouldn't stan bad people, trust me if you can't trust nobody else." Makaylah exclaimed.
"How do you know? Did you meet them too?" My mom asked.
"I wouldn't be alive if I did." She laughed. "It's just that they record every moment of their lives, confess their rawest emotions on a daily basis. They're really good people. Forreal!"
"You only seeing them behind a screen." My mom commented.
"Ok Zaina, lemme ask something and you tell me if it's true from what you experienced in person." She cleared her throat, making my mom sigh.
"Is it true that Suga spends the majority of his day with his arms crossed?"
"Yeah." I nodded. "I didn't spend a whole lotta time with him but when I saw him, his arms were always crossed."
"And what does Jungkook call Jimin when he talks to him?"
"Jimin-ssi. He never uses hyung to him unless it's a serious conversation."
"Just like it is when they're on camera. Zaina, how does RM point at people?"
"Had to ask about him?" I chuckled awkwardly.
"How does he point? Everybody points the same." My mom rolled her eyes.
"He points with two fingers, l-like this." I demonstrated. Just thinking about these moments made my speech stutter a little.
"Have you ever seen V sleeping?"
"What kinda question?" My mom furrowed her brows. Both of us chuckled before I answered.
"No, but I did see a picture of it on Hoseoks phone. Apparently he sleeps with his eyes open."
"Does he sleep with his eyes open?" We both spoke at the same time, in sync.
"I told you, ma. The exact same as they are on camera. These are tiny details that they could lie about just to sound quirky and interesting, but if they didn't lie about this, there's clearly a lot of stuff that they portray on camera that's actually real."
"But still-" I spoke.
"Nope. If RM has ever hugged you, Suga has ever approved of your existence, Jin has ever laughed at your joke, J-Hope has ever made you dance with him, Jungkook has ever gotten flustered, Jimin has ever liked your outfit, or V has ever been around you in general; then you obviously mean something to them. Because those are the number one things that they only do with people they like, aka each other and Jimmy Kimmel." She counted off her fingers.
Namjoon hugged me every day, really tight and for a long time. Yoongi didn't even celebrate his own birthday properly because he wanted to focus on the fact that I was leaving. I still remember when I beat all of the guys in DDR and Hoseok wouldn't stop challenging me until either he won, or I tapped out. Jungkook was really giggly and blushy a lot actually, I didn't even do anything. And when Jimin approved of my date outfit, and my hair. And Tae, he was just around me a lot.
"Yeah... all of that happened." I slowly agreed.
"Then what about their lying habits, since you know everything?" My mom raised a brow at her.
"J-Hope for a fact can't lie. His face expresses it all. However, Jungkook, and Jimin are really good liars because they're good at going undetected, good at building rapport. You'd never suspect them kinda thing. RM and Jin are a little iffy because they're good at derailing but they easily draw suspicion, Jin because he goes red when he's lying but goes red when he isn't too and RM because he tries so hard to not be suspicious that it's obvious. V, I mean he's also an actor, so of course he's pro at lying. And Suga doesn't even lie in the first place because he's never suspected. He has the same face, same posture, same pitch to his voice at all times. That's why I love him, he's consistent."
"Chill out with that love stuff." My mom flicked her hand.
"I didn't see any of those signals. I mostly encountered Namjoon lying, but he would just scratch the back of his head or play with his ear or something."
"Really? He only does that when he's lying through guilt. Like that time when he broke the screen door to their vacation house and lied that it was already broken before he touched it." She laughed.
"They gotta vacation house??" My mom leaned forward. "If you saying they your friends and got a vacation house, they better been paying for everything."
"I didn't let them. I can't take that guilt." I chuckled.
"Oh Zaina!" Kaylah gasped. "It might help for you to trust them again if you learned more about them."
"I'll try it. Get some videos and we'll watch them together... Saturday."
"So when I get off work on Saturday, I better see smiles or else I'm going to Korea to find that boy myself." My mom crossed her arms, a little playfulness to her voice.
"For sure, ma." Kaylah smiled.
