Twenty Four

"Jac.." He sat beside me.

"What?" I said as I was scanning the channels.

"I know that you know that Janine's cheating on me." Napapikit ako ng mariin sa sinabi niya.

"Yeah.." I sighed.

"How did you know?" He asked me.

"I just felt it." I sighed. "I hate you. I hate you for choosing her. I hate you for making a fool out of yourself."

"I don't want you to hate me." I looked at him.

"Jerod, ano nanaman ba'ng trip 'to?" Nagkunwari akong natawa ng kaunti. "I won't fall for any of those anymore. I've made my decision. Its for the both of us."

Nakatitig lang siya sa akin. As if waiting for me to shout "joke!", but I wasn't in the mood to joke around. Seryoso na ako dito. I need to take a break from all of this. Isang beses pa at mababaliw nako kaya mabuti pang unahan ko na.

"Jac..." Hindi niya alam ang sasabihin niya.

"Alam ko nagugulat ka lang sa ngayon, pero sooner or later, magpapasalamat ka rin sa'kin. Ito na 'yon 'di ba? Matagal mo nang hinihintay 'to. Act happy naman. Nahirapan ako sa desisyon na 'to tapos parang hindi ka naman masaya. Cheer up!" Tinapik ko pa ang balikat niya.

Umiling lang siya. Hindi pa rin makapaniwala sa naririnig galing sa'kin. Ganon ba talaga ka-imposible?

"Sige na. Matutulog na ako. Kapag nahirapan naman ako dito, sa guest room na ako matutulog. Good night." Hinarap ko ang TV at pinatay ito gamit ang remote.

"G-good night." He slowly got up and walked towards the stairs.

I was fighting the urge to turn and look at him. Natatakot ako na baka 'pag nilingon ko siya, nakatingin din siya sa akin. Baka magbago nanaman ang desisyon ko.

"Ms Jac!" Jan greeted me.

"Jan, sorry." I hugged her tight.

I know these past few weeks were hell for her. She faced everything alone.

"O-okay lang po." She was astonished when I hugged her.

"Dave and Al are on their way. Kamusta? I mean, anong nangyari?" I sat at my swivel chair.

Ang tagal naman ni Al at Dave. Hindi naman ako gaanong na-traffic sa byahe.

"Malapit na pong mag-open ang branch natin. Next week na po."

"Oh my! Really?! Naasikaso mo na lahat? Thanks talaga, Jan!" She smiled at me.

"May meeting po kayo tomorrow with the owner of the mall. Atsaka, kailangan na rin po nating gumawa ng new collection for summer. The sooner the better po. May new rivals po tayo ngayon and I believe na makaka-apekto po sila sa market shares na mayroon tayo ngayon." Napapikit ako.

Paano ko maaasikaso ang divorce namin sa lagay na 'to? Haaaay!

"Good morning!" Al entered the office with a smile.

"You're late. Where's Dave?" I asked her.

"Present!" Sigaw ni Dave.

He entered the office with a box of Conti's.

"Happy Birthday!" Sabay-sabay naming sigaw nila Al at Dave.

Nagulat naman si Jan. Today is her birthday. We planned to surprise her for her birthday and to thank her for all her hard work. Kung wala siya, nalugi na siguro kami.

Lumapit kami sa kanya at sinindihan ang candle ng chocolate mousse cake na para sa kanya. Naiiyak siya habang hinihintay na masindihan ang candle. We sang her a happy birthday and asked her to make a wish. I'm sure na success ng ZBJ ang winish niya.
