Song= Ghost-Banners
Harry
You would've thought the talk about me and Malfoy's fight would've ended after a week like every other gossip. But no. The faint whispers still followed me from the corners of the hallway whenever I passed someone. Eyes were planted in my direction, and shy fingers pointed at me as if they thought it was discreet.
Hermione, Ron, and I were all attending chemistry class together as I looked at my paper, the monotone voice of Professor Snape sounding above the class.
Beside me, a jar of clear liquid was placed, and Hermione was fully occupied trying to make it turn its color beside me. She clenched her eyebrows together as she looked through the jar, her wild hair swinging behind her back as she shifted in her seat.
A low mutter sounded behind me, and I turned to see Professor Snape staring at me.
He looked like he was about to say something, but he got interrupted by the bell. I didn't hesitate to walk away from him, leaving him staring after me as I cleaned the desk. I watched Hermione write down the last measurements before we all left the room.
We strolled through the halls, finding our way to the great hall. From the corner of my eye, I spotted Cedric in a corner against the locker talking to Luna. A smile played on his lips as he chuckled at something she said. I watched as he turned around and met my gaze. At first, there was a hint of surprise shown on his face, but then he softened and smiled.
Cedric disappeared from the hallway as we rounded the corner and entered the Great Hall. The first thing I noticed when we reached the Gryffindor table was the red banners hanging straight above the mahogany table, the familiar lion gazing down upon us from the silk.
That's when I noticed something was off. I looked around the Hall and realized that no one was talking. Low breaths escaped the different tables, but no words were shared. I gazed at Hermione. She looked like she'd just realized too.
The silence was almost overwhelmingly loud. I raised my gaze and turned to look at the Professors' table.
Headmaster Dumbledore stepped up to the Professors' podium, at his speaker stand. Upon it was a highly detailed gold owl clung to the front with its wings open. Long white candles were placed on both sides and their melted contents ran down the stand.
"May I please have your attention," he said firmly. Everyone's eyes were already fixed upon him, but the silence somehow grew louder.
Dumbledore was in fact very old. Probably older than I'd first thought. His beard was a collection of long white hair strings, all a bit frizzy. On top of his head, a round hat was placed, covering the top of his long hair.
"It has come to my attention that the students of Hogwarts don't socialize much across the houses."
Confused mutters went along every table.
"A recent event ended up in a fight, and I asked my colleagues what the reason could possibly be for such a violent escapade?"
Another wave of silent whispers and laughs went among the crowds. I spotted Malfoy at the Gryffindor table looking emptily out in the air. Ron looked too before he chuckled to himself.
"We came to the conclusion that you students simply have too much rivalry and too little friendship."
Like we didn't already know that.
"I know what you're thinking. Why the hell is the headmaster telling us this?"
Laughs went through the hall, destroying the silence that had weighed upon the room.
"Well, I am excited to inform you that the teachers from every year have planned an upcoming camp in the following week."
Some students looked gaping at each other. Some cheered. Some laughed like it was a joke, and some even looked like they were gonna cry.
"We have already informed your parents and none have objected."
No words left my mouth. Neither did Ron's, or Hermione's.
The twins broke in from beside us, "Oh come on now, why do all three of you look so displeased? It's a whole week without school, and the pranks will be phenomenal."
"Of course, the whole school can't go all at once, so each year will be camping together," Dumbledore's voice roared over all the students' objections.
"Well, that's a bummer for you!" said George.
Fred chuckled beside him, but I just looked at them, without saying a word.
I looked away and felt my gaze drift away to the Slytherin table. I watched Draco rise from his seat, and turn his head around before he sneaked out of the Hall.
And at this point, I didn't even want to bother trying to understand him.
