Taylor's pov

"Are you sure that where we're going is safe?" I asked, following him off the main road and into the dried brush that lined a path through the ground.

"Eh," Colby shrugged, peaking back behind himself to look at me, "I've been here before,'

"Is that supposed to reassure me?" I asked, stepping over a branch that hung very low along the path, "Like, what if someone was chasing you with a knife?"

"Make it like a ton of tiny knives and it's more accurate.  Also," he added, "You probably shouldn't have worn shorts.  These branches will cut you and it hurts like a bitch,"

"Thanks for telling me that before you sent me out to Death Valley to die," I said, and Colby let out an exasperated laugh.

"We're not- You know what?  I'll just turn this car around," He began walking slower for no reason at all.

"I'm pretty sure that we're not in a car," I said before snapping something under my foot.

I looked down to see what it was, but I didn't stop walking.  But when I picked my head back up, he was right there and I ran into him.  "Shit, Colby.  Sorry," I added, backing up a little.

"Look at that," He pointed out, and I realized that the path was about to turn, giving us a beautiful view of rolling hills, and a couple of houses dotted here and there.

I came to stand next to him to try and get a better look, "Wow," I breathed out, looking up at Colby, "And you've been here before?"

"Yeah," He shrugged, wrapping his arm around me and pulling me closer to him, "But it was like three or four years ago, and it was nighttime, so I didn't get to see the view,"

It was weird, what was happening between us.  I was falling too fast for him, and things seemed to be going too right.

Like something bad is gonna happen and it's going to hit us, hard.

We stood, watching it for a short time before Colby walked back on the path, taking my hand as he went.

That was something I would have to get adjusted to, his hand in mine.  It didn't have the best fit, but I think that's because I wasn't really holding his hand.

I was just there.

Though don't get me wrong, he's hella cute and cares about everything to exist.  Colby's also sweet though he does have a dirty mind and lets out a perverted comment here and there.  But he's alright, other than that.

I had the feeling that I was doing something wrong, but maybe it was because I wasn't holding his hand in return like he probably wanted.

But I'm not his girlfriend so it's not my problem.

"Ow, shit," I said, tripping on an uneven piece of dirt that was caked to the ground.

"I just told you to watch out," Colby looked back at me.

"Sorry," I dragged out.

"It's okay, Taylor.  Quit apologizing," He smiled at me, and I returned the gesture as we continued walking, single-file due how thin the path was.

We walked on in silence, not that I didn't mind.  I wanted to take in the scenery around me, not the man in front of me.  But after walking behind him for so long, I realized that the importance of the things around me quickly diminished.

My eyes wandered to his body, the way his shoulders moved as he walked, the way his cut off shirt exposed his arms.  The back of his head since he didn't realize I was staring.  I started looking lower, down to the chains on his jean and back up at his ass.  I was making myself uncomfortable, and I could feel my cheeks begin to tint a light rose color.
