Taylor's pov
The receptionist let us know that we could go back into the room where what I decided to call "baby doctor" would come and see me.
I told Katrina I wanted to know as little about this place as possible, I didn't want to know any information about the workstyle or procedure, except Kat explained that I would obviously have to know the procedure since I was a patient.
There was something about this place that reminded me of a hospital, I didn't know if it was the plain coloring of the walls or the smell of sterilization that wafted off the equipment that made me think this way.
Less than approximately two minutes later, a female walked in the room, "Hello, I'm Grace. I understand that you're pregnant and that's why you are here?" She hardly looked at me, getting straight to the point and not wasting time. I appreciated that a lot.
"Yes," I still felt nervous about being here. Ever since I was a teenager I understood that I would never have to be in this environment for my own causes.
"I was told over the phone that you are infertile?" Grace glanced over at me, cracking her knuckles as she spoke.
"Unable to have children, yes," I subtly corrected her.
"Okay, well we'll have a look at the ultrasound and then go from there. Will you lay back for me, please?" She asked, walking over with a bottle in her hand. I assumed that was the gel that she would be putting on my stomach, and I was proved right once I did as she asked.
Grace lifted my shirt for me, squirting the gel on my stomach. It was a cool feeling but suddenly shifted to something slightly warmer as she ran the device over my stomach, watching the screen beside us.
Kat slipped her hand into mine, and I tore my eyes away from the work Grace was doing to see a smile on my friend's face.
I smiled in return before looking back at Grace, who was getting ready to speak, "Would you like to hear the heartbeat?" She asked, and I nodded.
She turned a knob, and a fast-paced thumping filled the room. It was such an interesting thing, it really was.
"Alright. I'm going to print you out a picture if you'd like, and I'll have someone momentarily to speak to you," She shut off the machine, wiping off my stomach before gently pushing everything to the side of the room, seeing as it was on wheels. After a couple taps on her computer, Grace whisked out.
Katrina and I looked over at each other once we were alone, "That went quicker than I expected," I said with a smile.
"Are you excited?" She asked quietly.
"I'm nervous to see what they have to say. I don't know who she's bringing in and whether or not they're sharing good news," I adjusted my shirt, covering my stomach to the best of my ability with one hand.
Kat didn't respond to that, and that simply led me to believe that she agreed with me. Not that I was wrong, and I wouldn't hold it against her for thinking that, but I knew what the both of us were thinking right now.
This person that Grace promised us to be arriving wouldn't be bringing good news.
We sat in silence until the door opened once again, causing our heads to turn to see who it was. It wasn't Grace, but instead another female doctor.
"Hello, I'm Doctor Lee but call me Emily," She walked over to me, shaking my free hand with her opened one. The other hand held papers and a clipboard, probably just some things that she would be informing me on.
"Hi," I said quietly, wringing my hands together.
She glanced back and forth from the clipboard to me before sitting down on the stool beside the computer screen.
