Taylor's pov

"So it's technically supposed to be a surprise?" I asked, laying flat on my back on his couch.  He was sitting by my feet, doing whatever it is Colby does on his phone.

"Yeah, but only I know he knows.  Well, you too now," He looked over at me, almost as if he was worried I was going to tell someone.

I brought my finger to my lips, "I'll be quiet."

His expression faded into a smile, "Thanks.  You know what?"

"What?" I asked, sitting up and putting myself in a more comfortable position where I could face him.

"I'm actually really glad that I found you yesterday." Colby said, and I thought about it more.

"Yeah, who knows where I'd be right now," I shook my head, thinking what could have happened if I actually went home with that random dude from the party, "Thanks for everything," I added.

"That's not what I meant," He corrected, smiling over at me once more, "I mean I'm just really happy that we met.  You know I actually never bring drunk people home and let them sleep on my couch,"

I flipped upside down, letting my head hang off the couch and my feet off the back, "So you're saying that I'm special?"

"Eh," He shrugged, winking at me, "Is that helping your hangover?" Colby leaned over, and I lifted my head slightly.

"Nope," I popped the p, and Colby offered me his hand, and I grabbed it.  In one motion that I wasn't expecting, he jumped up onto the couch, grabbing my other hand and pulling me up as if I was lighter than a feather.

But he didn't stop when my feet reached the ground, instead he threw me over his shoulder so I was staring at his back.  "Colby!" I squealed in surprise, pounding my fists against his back in a way that didn't hurt him but he still felt it, "Put me down!  Weren't you the one who just said that my head being upside down doesn't help a hangover?"

"And this probably isn't safe especially considering that we're on a couch," I pointed downwards, and he continued staying quiet.  Though after another moment of silence he stepped off the couch.

Using my hands, I pushed myself upwards until I was upright and looking down on Colby, "Hah," I teased him, "Now I'm taller than you.  Would you look at that?

Colby lowered me, I was still lifted higher than his head, but not by much.  He smiled, and I pressed my forehead to his, scrunching my nose playfully, "Thanks," I said quietly.

He smiled, looking confused, "For what?"

"Saving me, duh," I wrapped my arms around his neck.  We stayed in comfortable silence, taking each other in.  I listened to his breathing, it was slow compared to his heartbeat that I could practically hear from where I was.  I focused on his hair, moving different pieces around with my fingers before slipping my hand back behind his head beside my other one.

His smile faded after some time, using one hand to hold me up and the other pushed the hair back behind my ear.  Simple things like this went on until we heard a knock on Colby's bedroom door.

In the split second before the door opened, I was back on the ground, no longer staring into Colby's striking blue eyes.  Before I knew it, the blonde I remembered seeing last night was there, poking his head in.

Sam, his name hit me, and I began watching Colby for cues.  He looked back and forth between myself and Colby, who was walking up to him.

"Hey, oh I didn't know she was still here," He nodded over in my direction, and I felt belittled because it almost seemed like an insult.  I waved it off, convincing myself that he was feeling pressured by Jake's surprise party.
