Taylor’s pov
“Did you hear that?” I asked, half expecting Colby to answer. But with a pang of sadness fading into anger, I remembered he thought I was cheating and left me on the side of the road.
“Of course you didn’t,” I answered for him. I wondered what he could possibly be doing, being in an unfamiliar place and the only person he knew was one he was angry with.
I crept over to the door, peeking the camera around the frame to see if anyone was in the hall. I heard the same noise as before, but it wasn’t exactly gunshots. It sounded like footsteps in the other part of the restaurant maybe, but I couldn’t be too sure.
I didn’t have a clue as to who or what could be out there, and I didn’t want to look. I did my best to breathe through my nose, keeping my mouth shut so I was making as little noise as possible.
Colby never explained what I should do in situations like this, so I was completely lost. At the worst moment possible, I needed to sneeze. I did my best to try and hold it in, but failed miserably.
My sneeze wasn’t loud, but it was loud enough that whoever was in here with me heard it. I knew there was no point in trying to be quiet now, and I covered my mouth as I began crying out of pure fear.
I was going to be killed and nobody except for the useless camera in my hand would know.
I stupidly decided to step out around the doorframe, wrapping my arms around myself with the camera sticking out to the side.
Due to the shadows and darkness in the middle of the building, I couldn’t see the figure walking towards me.
“Please don’t hurt me,” I stuttered, going to turn to go back the way I came, “I was just leaving,”
“Taylor?” A very, very familiar voice asked. I froze, waiting to hear more. “Taylor, calm down. I came to apologize,” the voice said with a laugh.
I turned around, seeing Colby standing a couple of feet away from me. Even though I was angry with him, I sighed in relief because it wasn’t someone trying to hurt me.
“Look, I’m sorry for assuming stuff about you cheating,” He began, stepping closer as I wiped at my face.
“I guess I was just jealous that your dad had all those things to say about them,” Colby hugged me, holding on to me as I didn’t react.
He picked me up, swaying the both of us. My body felt like Jello, and I didn’t know whether to kiss him or slap him.
“I’m selfish, I know. I guess I just want you to know that I want you for myself, and it makes me angry sometimes,” He buried his head into my shoulder, and I could feel the annoyance creep back into my system as I stayed in his arms in silence.
Colby cannot tell me who I can and cannot hang out with, just because of their gender, but I didn’t necessarily understand if that’s the point he was trying to make.
Hesitantly, I wrapped my arms around his neck, and I couldn’t stop the words that seemed to fall out of my mouth, “I love you,”
I didn’t notice I said anything until Colby detached himself from me, leaving me staring into his icy eyes, “What?”
I shook my head, covering my mouth with my hand as if I was a child who swore, “I’m sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking-”
