A malfunctioning ship can be a good thing.

Cheetor planned on meeting Optimus but ended up far from the coordinates.
"Stupid system!" He rages and gets out of the burning ship. He grabbed a datapad and a few Energon cubes before leaving, "great, not even close to where I need to be!"
Cheetor has a good three-day journey to reach the location.

Cheetor tries his best to stay hidden from the humans, but a femme notices his shadow as he tries to sneak by her as she's on a hike.
Unbelievable, even taking the mountain route — which is slowing me down — didn't help avoid being discovered. Cheetor thinks as he watches the femme approach him.
"What are you doing here?" The femme asks
She notices how shiny Cheetor's fur is, "how unusual."
The femme reaches out to pet the shiny cheetah, surprised the animal let her and that the fur feels like metal.
"How strange," she comments, "you can't stay out here."
Cheetor thought the femme would send him to a lab to be studied on, not her home, and he didn't think her home would be on the mountain.

Cheetor didn't know what to do or think. What would happen if he showed this femme that he can talk or is an advanced alien robot?
"You're safe, I'm (Y/N)," she introduces herself, "clearly you are alien, but I will not report you so you can be taken to a lab. Can you talk?"
(Y/N) watched her new house guest nod. She figured they'd be afraid to say anything.
I need to show them they can trust me. She thinks as she walks away.

As the weeks pass, Cheetor realizes he's falling for (Y/N), even though she doesn't know much about him and could be terrified once he explains. Since few come up the mountain this time of year, Cheetor decides now is the only good time. He prepares a plan to flee just in case.

(Y/N) sits on a boulder while her friend stands a few feet away. She didn't think she'd watch her metal cheetah friend turn into a giant robot.
"Shh, don't scream," her friend pleads before explaining himself.
Even though she figured her friend was alien because of the metal fur, (Y/N) still can't believe the alien she met. Still, she felt sad to hear Cheetor was on a mission to meet friends at a location. Though (Y/N) feels sad, she'll end up saying goodbye once she and Cheetor get to where he was going; she agrees to help him.

The two learn a lot about each other during the three-day trip. Cheetor fell deeper in love with (Y/N) while she fell in love with him, no matter how many times she told herself it would never work.

The other Autobots couldn't believe that a human caught Cheetor and how much (Y/N) knew about them, and Ratchet immediately could tell the two like each other.
"Someone had a mission of their own," Ratchet teases, whispering.
"I doubt that's what happened, but it's clear these two like each other but think they shouldn't say anything," Optimus points out.

(Y/N) stays with Cheetor and the others to help the best she can. As the weeks go by, both feel tempted to tell the other how they feel about the other. but worried it'll destroy their friendship.
Cheetor plans a nice time together.

"It's beautiful," (Y/N) smiles, seeing the field of sunflowers.
There's a path to walk in the field with an open area in the center of the field. The two enjoy the walk but feel nervous. Cheetor is about to tell (Y/N) how he feels while (Y/N) worries she will be told that the Autobots are going home. She enjoys walking with her metal cheetah.

As they get to the center of the field, where there'd normally be a few picnic tables, there's a message, and a heart made of rose pedals.
I love you, (Y/N)
The cheetah playfully pounces onto her, resulting in her laying in the ground and Cheetor on top of her.
"I'd kiss you, but a metal tongue probably doesn't feel nice," he admits.
The two enjoy the time together before requesting a ground bridge home.

(Y/N) is too distracted to know once the two walked out of the ground bridge, Cheetor transformed and picked (Y/N) up.
"How about this," he smiles and moves (Y/N) to his dermas.
(Y/N) still tastes metal but enjoys this.
"So... um, how do we tell them?" She nervously asks.
"Oh, we know," Prime smiles.
Both Cheetor's and (Y/N)'s faces turn bright red.

Everything is as the two hoped until the Autobots mission on Earth is complete, and they know this means the Autobots are going home. Cheetor hates seeing (Y/N) cry, dreading there's nothing he can do, and it's not safe for (Y/N) to go with him.

"I'll come back, I promise," Cheetor kisses (Y/N) before the Autobots leave.

A year passes; (Y/N) believes Cheetor is busy helping rebuild Cybertron until she gets a call from Bumblebee.
"Bumblebee?" (Y/N) asks.
"I... I'm opening a space bridge for you," Bumblebee tells her before hanging up.
Immediately a space bridge appears, but (Y/N) fears this isn't good news.

She walks out of the space bridge, seeing what looks like a Cybertronian sized casket.
The others watch her go near the casket, knowing she'd cry even if they told her to stay away.
(Y/N) sees Cheetor in the casket, falls off the casket to the ground, moves by the casket, and cries.
"Leave her alone for now," Optimus tells the others who walk away. Optimus sits by (Y/N), waiting for her to be ready for friends to comfort her, dreading the pain she's feeling.
