An unwanted patrol leads Prowl to save a life, which slowly builds a friendship and a romantic relationship.
Warning: suicide attempt and abusive mother

Some days Prowl is annoyed with the task of patrolling the city.
It's not like the cons would be in the city. Prowl believes.
As he drives down the bridge, he notices how the traffic has stopped. Using his siren, Prowl gets closer to the cause of the traffic halting.

Prowl didn't expect to see a human femme standing at the edge of the bridge. Prowl has no interest in humans, but he knows Prime will be livid if he finds out Prowl let a human die.
Well, I guess it's a good thing we all had to get holoforms. Prowl observes, realizing there's no other way to stop the femme without revealing himself. He activates his holoform and steps out of his alt mode. Using his loudspeaker to communicate with the femme, Prowl tries to get her to come down and knowing well that she'll refuse.
As he thought, talking didn't help. He couldn't let her fall to her death, even if that meant revealing himself to the humans watching the situation. He caught the femme in his servo, and she's just as shocked as the onlookers.
"You'll all forget what happened soon," he tells them.
"Wait!" The femme exclaims, "I won't tell people about you, I promise."'
Prowl put her on the ground, transformed, and activated his holoform.
"Get in the car," he orders.
Once the femme is in the car, Prowl erases everyone's memory of the past ten minutes before driving off.

"What's your name?" Prowl asks as he drives down the street.
"(Y/N)," the femme replies.
He'll wait until they get to the Arc to discover what she was thinking.

Optimus is concerned about seeing a human femme with Prowl, but he knows Prowl is careful when around humans. Prowl explains how he met (Y/N) before the two find out why she thought death was a good idea.
"Because I live with my abusive mother who always abuses me since my parents divorced. I'm not eighteen, and I think even if I was, she'd force me to continue to live with her. I had to do it to avoid her forever."
(Y/N) is crying by the time she finishes explaining. Prowl comforts the sobbing (Y/N) as Optimus tells her she can stay at the Arc with the Autobots. Little did Optimus know that Prowl didn't like that (Y/N) had to go home for the night and to pack up. He feels how scared (Y/N) is, but didn't think she'd beg him to drop her off down the street.
"You're driving a police car; she's going to be livid," (Y/N) argues.
Prowl does as she wants. He watches her walk down the sidewalk and contacts Prime, requesting permission to stake out at (Y/N)'s home.
"I trust you'll engage only if necessary," Optimus tells him.
Prowl crouches under an open window, hoping to hear any arguing. He didn't have to wait long.
"Where have you been?!" A femme rages.
That must be (Y/N)'s mom. Prowl figures.
"Out," (Y/N) shyly replies.
"You snuck out!" The femme rages.
Prowl does his best to get a view of the situation while staying hidden. He didn't think he'd watch (Y/N) get whipped. Her back is full of cuts from the whip that are reopening and bleeding. He dreads waiting for backup, but he needs to have Ratchet get here, and if her mom is armed, he can't deal with this himself, but he's ready with his gun if he has to. Prowl struggles to wait for the others as he hears (Y/N) cry.
"I'm done with you! You should have been aborted!"
Prowl watches the femme take out a gun and rushes into the house, hearing the gun go off before he gets into the house. Even though he just met (Y/N) two hours ago and isn't a fan of humans, he panics, thinking she's dead.
He gets into the house and shots at the mom, but not enough to kill her. He sees (Y/N) has been shot three times. This terrifies Prowl as he holds her in his arms.
"I didn't think I'd get what I wanted this way," (Y/N) weakly says.
"No, you'll be ok," Prowl assures her before her eyes close.
He feels how weak her pulse is. (Y/N)'s mom smiles.
Prowl hates watching Ratchet's holoform rush to get (Y/N) to the hospital. The police and another ambulance are called, and Prowl can only return to the Arc and hope for good news about (Y/N).

Ratchet and Optimus return to the Arc six hours later. (Y/N)'s mom is being charged with child neglect and attempted murder. Ratchet knows Prowl wants to hear the truth. (Y/N) is lucky to not be in critical condition, but will be in the ICU for at least a week.

Prowl can visit (Y/N) two days later with Optimus. Prowl is happy to see she's awake and doing ok, and he and Optimus are happy to hear that (Y/N) will go home in a week. She smiles when they tell her she's going back to the Arc and her mom is in jail.

Prowl visits (Y/N) every day, waiting for her release day. He knows she'll still be in pain, but hopes to take her out to eat after they get her stuff from her house.
For now, he gets to know his new charge while she's in the hospital. As he learns more about her, Prowl falls more in love with (Y/N) no matter how often he tells himself it's wrong.

A week passes quickly. (Y/N) is feeling she'll be able to get dinner with Prowl after she packs her stuff. For now, Prowl has her focus on her room but believes they'll be back to pack the rest of the house soon.
Once they're done, the two go to dinner. (Y/N) is happy to be with someone she can trust, even if he's really an alien robot. Prowl is happy to see her smile.

(Y/N) is relaxed until the two get to the Arc. Optimus made sure everyone was present, which scares her.
"You're safe; no one is going to hurt you," Prowl promises as he hugs her.
Optimus instructs the others to take it slow while (Y/N) adjusts to staying with them and feeling safe.
Prowl watches (Y/N) closely as she adjusts to living with the Autobots. Everybot questions how was her life at home? Ratchet believes she was more like a prisoner.

The Autobots help (Y/N) feel safe, and it's a long three months before she feels safe. Meanwhile, Prowl has been debating telling (Y/N) how he feels. Unknown to him, Ratchet and Prime know what he's been thinking.
"You should tell her," Ratchet insists.
"No, I'm an alien, and she's a human," Prowl argues.
"That shouldn't matter," Optimus argues.

Prowl finds (Y/N) in her room. She sits on the edge of the bed once she sees who's walked into the room.
"I need to talk to you," Prowl tells her as he sits next to her, "it's nothing bad."
"How would my mom going to prison be bad?"
"N-no, I don't know what is going on with the case," Prowl corrects, "I ... I love you. I-I know, I'm an alien robot, and you're a human, but—."
Prowl didn't think (Y/N) would kiss him. Their first kiss quickly turns heated.
"So what if you're an alien?" (Y/N) smiles, "no one will know."
Prowl smiles and lies on the bed with his new girlfriend.
