Wheeljack thinks he lost the mech he loves before even telling him.

After the battle with Soundwave, the Autobots discover their medic is injured. Arcee and Bumblebee have no choice but to try to repair him. Wheeljack hides in his room and cries. Believing it's his fault, Ratchet is injured. At least if it was him, Ratchet could repair him with no problem.

Optimus believes Arcee and Bumblebee did well, and Ratchet has a good chance of survival, but Ratchet is still unconscious the next morning.
"With his injuries, Ratchet may be in stasis lock for a few days," Optimus believes.

Wheeljack tries to avoid everyone, staying in his berthroom, crying frequently. Afraid he'll be told Ratchet is gone.
The others worry about him but know they can't force Wheeljack out of his berthroom.
The team gets advice from June. All believe what she's saying is logical, even for a mech like Wheeljack.

Wheeljack is afraid to see the entire team walk into his berthroom. They ask him what happened. He still thinks they want an explanation to blame him for lying.
"...I failed to protect him," Wheeljack finished as lubricant leaks from his optics.
"It's not your fault," Optimus assures him, "Soundwave injured Ratchet."
Everybot hugs Wheeljack before leaving.

A week passes, and Wheeljack spends most of his time by Ratchet's medical berth.
Wheeljack is worried this is permanent stasis until he sees Ratchet's optics online. He smiles but still worries. The others are happy to hear Ratchet is online.

Wheeljack waits a few weeks before telling Ratchet how he feels about the medic and how he thought he'd lose Ratchet. Wheeljack didn't think Ratchet would kiss him.
The two know they can't keep the relationship secret even if Wheeljack continues to leave. He'll be back more often, and both mechs will still worry about the other.

They tell the others a week later. The others can't believe either are in a relationship, add with each other, and they can't believe Ratchet is letting Wheeljack continue to leave the base.

Wheeljack sticks around the base more now that he's with Ratchet.
A year passes until the two decide to add a sparkling in their lives. Wheeljack didn't think Ratchet would choose to be the one to carry.

Ratchet works on the computer until he feels pain. He ignores the pain, but that quickly becomes impossible. Ratchet knows it's time.
:: Wheeljack, I'm in labor. :: Ratchet comms as he walks to his berthroom.

Wheeljack speeds back to base, hoping their little sparkling isn't in a hurry.

Ratchet lies on the berth, struggling with contractions.
Wheeljack rushes into Ratchet's berthroom. He helps Ratchet stand, which results in his water breaking. Lubricant dripping from his interface panel.
"Scrap, this sparkling is in a hurry, frag," Ratchet lies on the berth.
"Not even close."
"Frag."
Wheeljack lies next to Ratchet, trying to support him. Even if Ratchet could walk to the medbay, Wheeljack is not trained to administer drugs, and Ratchet wouldn't instruct him on the spot. He regrets not arguing he should be the one to carry even if that meant not being able to travel like he has been.
I've been selfish. Wheeljack regrets.
"Don't blame yourself. I choose to carry and let you continue your lifestyle," Ratchet pants, "this is normal. I should have taught Optimus to help with pain," Ratchet can teach Wheeljack to see if Ratchet is ready, "Frag, Wheeljack, hurry!"
"I don't have to do anything; I see the helm."

Glad the walls of the base are thick. Wheeljack thinks as Ratchet's screams echo through the room. Hating there's not much he can do.
We're fragged if there's an issue. Is that why this is hurting Ratchet? Wheeljack worries.

Next thing Wheeljack knows, he's catching the sparkling.
"Frag," Ratchet pants, "that was fragging painful."
The two hear their sparkling cry. Wheeljack lays the sparkling on Ratchet's chassis and lies on the berth by him. Both smiling at their little ( femme/ mech).
The two struggle to figure out a name, and Ratchet scolds Wheeljack for his horrible attempt to combine their names.
"Jacket? Really?? Forget name combining. I think ( name) is fitting."
"I like that."
The happy parents enjoy a little time together before Ratchet recharges, and Wheeljack shows everyone the sparkling is here.

The humans are fascinated and asking for the graphic version of how an Autobot has a baby, especially a mech. Though they knew Ratchet was carrying, they thought waiting until after the birth was appropriate.
Optimus smiles, happy another Cybertronian is born.
