(Y/N) is seriously injured on a mission. The medics save her leg, but she's disabled. Bumblebee helps her but is afraid to tell (Y/N) how he feels. (Y/N) hates hearing there's a Valentine's day dance, but Bumblebee makes her happy.

(Y/N) knew she would work with the Autobots, but she didn't think she'd fall in love with one. She told herself to stop thinking about the Autobot that way because it'll never happen. (Y/N) continued to train with the other soldiers and fight alongside them and the Autobots, ignoring the feeling until she sees him. Then she struggles to ignore him except in battle, but how long would that last?

For now, she's lucky that he's not assigned to this mission. No Autobot is, as this is supposed to be a simple mission, but when your enemy is the Decepticons, there's no such thing as simple. As Megatron does his best to take down the building — getting out before he's buried under the rubble — most soldiers make it out. A few, including (Y/N), weren't so lucky.

"Five of them," a soldier who made it out tells Optimus and Lennox.
"We still need to retrieve the bodies," Lennox reminds the soldier.
Bumblebee is part of the team of Autobots who responded to the distress call. He's terrified that he's not seeing (Y/N). Hating that he's ordered to take the other soldiers back to the base along with Ironhide.

The situation is grim as the rescue mission turns into needing to plan funerals — though there'd be no bodies to bury. Ratchet isn't sure if he could identify the bodies. The only one who is alive is (Y/N). Ratchet's scans reveal grim findings. Though she won't die, Ratchet hopes he and Jolt can save her leg. He knows the chance of (Y/N) continuing to be on active duty is slim.

"You think we can repair her leg enough?" Jolt asks, seeing the x-ray.
"I'm hoping to, but I know recovery will be rough to help the others around the base."

One ten-hour surgery, six weeks in a cast, hours of physical therapy, and a rough holiday season later; (Y/N) can walk but with a cane. Recovery wasn't perfect, and she has a severe limp, so ditching the cane is likely out of the question. Add the scar left from the surgery.
"Forget him liking me. No guy will like me," (Y/N) concludes, "especially when I'm not fully recovered. Fucking limp and requiring shots every fucking week."
Rather than be discharged, Lennox and Optimus agree to let (Y/N) stay in N.E.S.T. and help Mirage and Ironhide. Bumblebee is happy to hear how well (Y/N)'s recovery has been, even with the possible permanent issues.

Bumblebee sees (Y/N) walking down the hall with a stack of folders. Knowing she's going to Lennox's office across the base from Mirage's.
"Let me take those," Bee insists, "I won't look through them."
(Y/N) agrees, and Bee takes the stack.

"Sir, apologies, but I am delivering these to you rather than (Y/N)," Bee explains to Lennox.
"It's fine, Bee."
Bumblebee puts the stack on the desk and leaves. Hoping to help (Y/N) as much as possible.

That's exactly what he does for the next month. Some days the two would sit on a bench in the hallway and talk for a few minutes before Bee would bring whatever (Y/N) had to the required destination.
"Bumblebee?" Optimus asks.
"Yes, sir?"
"Do you consider (Y/N) more than a friend?"
Bee didn't think this was what he'd be asked.
"I.. uh ... yes, but I doubt she thinks the same," Bee replies, waiting for the lecture that (Y/N) is human.
"You won't know unless you ask her," Optimus smiles.
"Sure, but when?"
"You'll know when the time is right."

To the Autobots and soldiers' surprise, on February first, Lennox announces there will be Valentine's day dance. This announcement upset (Y/N). She cries in her room for a while before going to the cafeteria.
Before entering the cafeteria, Optimus sees her. She only smiles as he greets her. Optimus could tell that she had been crying. He followed her into the empty cafeteria and the kitchen to get a cup of water. She sits at the nearest table, drinking the water and struggling not to cry again.
"May I sit with you?" Optimus asks.
"Yes," (Y/N) replies, smiling as she wipes the tears off her face.
"Why are you crying? Are you in pain?"
"No, just self-pity. Seeing everyone ask someone to the dance while I have no one. You don't know how humans are. Treating the disabled like trash. Whether in an accident or they're born disabled."
(Y/N) didn't bother saying she likes an Autobot. Uncertain if there's such a thing as disabled on Cybertron. Uncertain if Bee's broken voice box would have counted since it's been repaired.
"And what if an Autobot asks you to the dance?"
"Why would anybot ask a crippled human?" (Y/N) laughs, "I can't dance. I can barely walk!"
"None of that is true," Optimus argues, "you're still part of N.E.S.T. and my team. You're still part of my team, and I know an Autobot who likes you."
"Thanks, Optimus," (Y/N) smiles.
Though (Y/N) didn't believe it. She tries to stand up, but grabs her leg in pain. Optimus helped her to the medbay, noticing the terrible limp.

Ratchet watches the two walk into the medbay, regretting that he failed to remind her about her appointment. He would do this no matter who's the patient. Optimus takes (Y/N) to an inpatient room, suspecting she'll need a little time before leaving the medbay after her shot. Optimus leaves the medbay.

"... ok, I'll see you later," Optimus hears Bee talking to Ironhide in the hangar.
Ironhide walks away as Optimus approaches Bee to tell him that (Y/N) is in the medbay and that now is a good time to talk to her.
"I don't know, sir. I don't want to hear her reject me."
"I don't think that'll happen," Optimus smiles.
Bee nods and goes to the medbay.

Bee sees (Y/N) laying on a bed with her bad leg propped up. Hating that she's been crying.
"Hi Bee, I didn't think you'd come here," she smiles.
Bee moves a chair by the bed, dits, and takes (Y/N)"s hand.
"D-do you want to go to the dance with me?" Be asks.
"I'm in no mood for jokes, Bee!"
"N-no, (Y/N), I want to go to the dance with you b-because I-I love you," Bumblebee moves (Y/N) onto his lap to hug her. She still feels a little pain but doesn't want to break the hug. Soon she's crying again, but this time she's happy, "you're beautiful. I've loved you since the day we met. I know how silly. I was terrified that you were one of the soldiers who died in the building collapse. True, I'd help you even if I just wanted to be friends, but I feel so bad that my spark aches—."
"You talk too much when nervous," (Y/N) smiles, "I love you and will go to the dance with you."

Optimus and Ratchet watch from Ratchet's office, smiling. The two know Bee will take good care of (Y/N) and help her through any challenge.
