Ivar and I went to the Chinese New Year's Festival again with Shinobi joining us. No one else was able to go this year, so it was just a date for us, which was plenty nice. It was especially cold this year, with little flurries of snow falling down throughout the whole day. We had fun walking around the city in the snow and me drinking a nice tea and eating the yummy food.

A few weeks after that, I got a surprise call from Alice wanting to come over and hang out. We got along fine these days, but since we don't have classes together, and Ivar usually comes to my place, I really only see her when I'm at the Cullen house, and I'm usually hanging out with Jas and Em when I'm there. So to have her call was a bit random beyond our one shopping trip together.

"Alice, hey, come on in." I invite her in when she arrives.

"Hey!" She greets with a chipper tone as she walks in. "So, I want to ask you some questions. You said I could do it in private... I want to know more about myself." She says to me right away, sitting down on the couch.

"You sure? It's not a lot, but I think it will help point you in the direction to find out more about where you came from." She nods rapidly in response. "Alrighty then. When the rogue tracker attacks Bella, he makes a dramatic speech on the tape, and he reveals he knew who you were. That's how you figured it out in the stories. Your name is Mary Alice Brandon. You had your gift as a human I believe, but your family... They thought you were insane. They put you in an asylum." I tell her delicately, and watch her face crumble at the news. I take her hand in my own and give her a reassuring squeeze before continuing.

"The doctors, well, it was popular at the time to use electro-shock therapy on the patients." I continue quietly, speaking lightly because she looks devastated. "One of the doctors, I think, was a vampire, and he took a liking to you. When the tracker was passing through, he caught your scent. I think you were his blood singer. The doctor vamp turned you in order to save you from the tracker. The tracker felt robbed, you were supposed to be his greatest meal, so he killed the doc. You woke up alone with no memories of your human life, I think because of the shock therapy used on you." I say sadly and pull her small frame into a comforting hug. "I don't remember exactly what state you were in, I think it was Missouri or Mississippi, one of the M ones. That's all I can remember. Like I said, it's not much, but I hope it helps." I finish off my story as she takes it all in. She eventually relaxes and wraps her tiny cold arms around me in a hug.

"That's enough. Thank you, that's enough for me to research more on." She says quietly. "I've always wanted to know. I can always see forward, but never back. My visions, they're random, as you know, they can be very frustrating, especially when they change. So it's been difficult to hear I won't be able to help my family in the future like I feel like I should." She says mournfully to me

"I bet." I agree genuinely. "I think your gift is more a curse sometimes. Sometimes knowing the future can force it to happen. It's something I've battled with in my own past. Having the knowledge of future events, but debating on letting them happen or trying to change them. I've played worlds in both ways, and inevitably, there will always be a consequence, or a fate that can't be changed." I trail off bitterly.

"You sound like you've lost someone." She says with probing curiosity. "I'm sorry! That was rude of me to assume!" She says sheepishly once she realizes she was being forward.

"You're right, I have lost many someone's." I say quietly to her. "But, with my knowledge, I have saved a lot more than I have lost. For me, it's knowing when to intervene. Sometimes it isn't always best to tell people their future, other times, it's imperative. There's no one right answer unfortunately." I admit honestly.
