The seasoned vamps instruct my brother and I on how to hear and use our senses in order to hunt. We begin to hunt as instructed, finding a herd of deer not far from us. We easily hunt them down, but the feeding part is difficult. Trying to cleanly get an opening and not just a mouth full of fur is hard. My first deer was messy, and not enough to satisfy me at all. The taste was also... unappealing, but bearable.
I feel around in my outfit, and notice my jacket still had the knives in the hidden lining on the inside. I carefully take one out, testing the metal in my grip and getting a feel for how hard to hold it without breaking it, then I feel more ready for the next target.
We come up onto a family of bears. I signal for Jay to leave the mama and cubs alone, but to target the male bear. He nods, and he takes this male down and drinks from his a little better than with the deer. We travel a bit more and find another set of bears. It's Spring now, so they are all coming out of hibernation. Jay signals the same for me as I did for him, and this time I go for the male. I swiftly use take down tactics and subdue the bear easily, only I use my knife to stab a hole into its neck, then drink much easier from that opening. Once I've drained the bear, I stand back up, feeling satisfied. We rejoin the others, who were observing us in shock from a distance away.
"How did you two manage to control yourselves like that? You didn't even try to go for the other bears, not even once." Emmett asks us in shock.
"Basic tactics. Get the male away from the mom and kids, works in multiple scenarios." Jay answers casually for us.
"We developed our duo lookout/take down combos back when we were street rats. Just, we only used it on people later when we were bats." I add in. "Sometimes with less killing." I add with a smirk to my brother, who matches it with an arrogant one of his own.
Ivar walks up to me and pulls me into his arms strongly. "That was incredible to watch. You two are naturals. Your teamwork is so flawless. And your use of the knife was, well, very you, but also quite effective. You'll get cleaner each time you hunt."
I look down at my blood soaked jacket when we part, seeing the blood also got on his white shirt but he didn't see to care. "That's why we wear black and red. Natural camouflage." I grin up at him proudly, then teasingly point to his ruined shirt. "Can we go back though? I want to see my sons. How are they? Are they ok?" I ask worriedly, thinking about my tiny babies.
"They are more than ok, they are perfect." Ivar says with a comforting and warm smile. "Let's get you changed first, then you can see them. Though, please, don't attack us if we suddenly restrain you." He asks seriously. "Just keep in mind we are protecting the kids if we perceive a threat. Carlie has also bravely volunteered, along with Jacob, to be the buffer greeting." He tells us and then we head back.
We get to the outside of the house, and Alice meets us with towels and a change of shirts for us. the three of us with blood on our clothes quickly clean up and shamelessly change tops. I had a sports bra on under my shirt, so I didn't care about modest.
We walk around to the front of the house, where Jacob is standing protectively in front of Carlie. I smirk at him, and open my arms dramatically for a hug. He rolls his eyes and walks up me, and warily eyes Jay as he does. When he gets to me, I gently wrap my arms around him in a hug and take in a whiff.
Worst decision ever, he reeks.
"He smells worse than that time we took Shinobi to the beach and he rolled in wet kelp and then sat on us." I wrinkle my nose at him and pull away. "Ugh, my boys are going to smell this bad too, aren't they?" I ask with a grimace and hear many chuckles. Jay just walks up to him close enough and gets a whiff, then backs away again.
