~ Ivar POV ~

I cannot believe I let my wife go off to scout our enemy. I know she is strong, but she is still a newborn. My mind is racing with awful scenarios on how she id right now, each more gruesome than the last. We only get check in's from Demetri twice a day. A lot of things can go wrong in 12 hours on enemy soil.

"Either you have absolutely no faith in my sister, or that carpet has wronged you on a personal level." Jay says sarcastically as he comes into the library where I have found myself trying to calm my nerves. I look down at the carpet that I indeed have destroyed in my pacing. Evidently, I have not calmed at all.

"I am worried. She is surrounded by enemies, and practically alone. There are so many things that could go wrong." I tell him worriedly. It's been four days since she left, and I've just been here, safe in this castle.

"Then she adapts. It's what she does best." Jay says with pride. "Look, this is her gift. Not shadows and teleporting and shit, but taking charge and leading a mission to have the safest outcome. A little banged up maybe, but usually everyone comes out alive. Present exception aside." He indicates sarcastically to himself. "But seriously, she's got this." He says firmly, looking in my eyes to let me see his faith in his sister. "It's funny, when we were little, usually we were the ones having to step into the enemies traps, and now she's the one setting one up. I bet you she's having a blast playing the 'villain' right now. Probably feels like some divine ass payback or something." He shrugs with a smirk.

"I admire your confidence in your twin, I really do, but until my wife is back by my side, I'm going to worry for her." I say stubbornly and he throws his hands up in surrender.

"Fine, be that way. I'm telling her later." He threatens while pointing at me. "Oh by the way, she just called the creepy king dude." He adds casually over his shoulder and walks out of the room. I let his words sink in for a moment before they hit, and I take off for the council room quickly.

"Ah, there you are Ivar, we sent young Jay to find you." Aro says lightly as I run into the king's war council room. "We heard from your mate, she brought news."

"What news, is she ok?" I asks urgently.

"She is fine, brilliant even. Quite the strategist, and surprisingly devious." He giggles enthusiastically, and I try to keep patient with his antics. "She and Afton have discovered the Russian's reason for their involvement in the war. Evidently, they are under the impression that we, the Volturi, have killed the leader's mate."

"Did you?" I ask in confusion. It does sound like something Aro would do, but he seems to be genuinely uninformed.

"Not that any of us is aware off." Aro says sincerely. "We have always been on good terms with the Russian's. Their former leaders were good friends and allies of ours. I have asked many of the guard, and none have killed a Russian woman or anyone from that region in centuries, and certainly not the queen of their coven."

"Then why do they think you did?" I wonder aloud.

"Young Aria and Afton seem to think that foul play may be in order. The Romanian's are the ones training the newborns, and only in offensive maneuvers. There are also confirmation of other covens there now, but each has, well, had disagreements over the ages with our rule." He says dismissively.

"The Russian's may be being used then? That does not stop the war from happening though." I argue with a frown, and they nod.

"No, it does not. It will be an unfortunate end to an otherwise noble coven. Their new leader will be their downfall." Aro agrees solemnly. "Your wife did also want us to mention one thing to you, Ivar, about what she overheard. The Russian leader spoke that when his coven members die, they will feast with the All-Father. Does that mean anything to you?" Aro asks knowingly.
