Habiba's POV:

"Who has a boyfriend?"

"Good morning, ma," I smiled, nudging Amina, who looked frozen while she stared at her mother with a frightened look.

It seems she didn't want her mother to find out but her look was only going to expose her.

"Morning, what boyfriend are we discussing?" Mother-in-law asks again with her arms folded.

"Mom, it's a movie, I was discussing a movie I saw recently on Netflix," Amina replies anxiously.

"Really? Then why do you look so pale?" She asks her expression turning serious and screaming, I DON'T BELIEVE YOU.

"Mom, we were just discussing." Amina sighed.

"Whatever, get ready, we're going out."

"Okay, I will join you soon, let me change," Amina replies.

Once we watched her leave the room, we both took a deep breath, her presence felt suffocating.

"God! Mom always comes at the wrong time." Amina groans.

"So you meant what you said? You do have a boyfriend?" I sighed.

"No... I was just joking, as usual." She says, laughing nervously, but I didn't believe that.

"Are you sure? I know when you joke, you're lying, and your fake laughter proves that; who is he, tell me?"

"Who is who?" She laughed.

"C'mon, I mean who is Amir?" I sighed.

"I can't." She says now with a broken voice as her laughter fades off.

"You can always share everything with me, I'm ready to listen." I sighed.

"Fine! It's true, I have a boyfriend, whom I love so much... She says while taking a brief second to stare at me.

"We've been secretly dating since I got into the university, and since then we've been together, but... She paused again.

"But what?"

"You're still here?!" Mother-in-law barges in again.

"No, let's go, Habiba. I'll see you later, bye." She waves running out.

Seeing Amina off, I could sense she was disturbed.

The Amina I know is very jovial and cheerful, so why did she look so sad, sadness and pain were visible in her voice when she spoke.

"Is her boyfriend violent? Why is she keeping him a secret when everyone is eager to see her married?" I sighed.

These thoughts were eating me up as I lay flat on the bed.

"May I come in?" Emma's voice came across the door.

"Yeah."

"Good morning ma'am... Oh my God, what happened to your head?" Emma rushed towards me in worry.

"I'm fine, just a minor injury," I smiled.

"Does it hurt?" She asks dishing out a bowl of egg sauce, toast bread, and a mug of tea.

"All this? I'm not that hungry." I smiled.

"Grandma asked me to serve this. She also wanted to add some fruit salad and pepper soup, but the tray was already occupied." Emma giggled.

"Thanks." I smiled and began to eat.

"Ma'am, while you were away, we all missed you; we missed your gist, especially stories from your village." Emma smiled.
