Habiba's POV:A week to my exams had now turned into a day, I was so glad to resume back to school but at the same time, I was anxious about it, the new environment wasn't a familiar one, and I knew no one there unlike my secondary school where I knew everyone since we all belonged to the same community.
Scrolling on my Google feed, I kept checking all the details of the school, I was amazed by its enormous buildings and lecture rooms, its vast landscapes were also captivating.
It is said that the university was one of the most prestigious universities in Lagos, known for its excellence globally. Only those with connections managed to get admitted, and only the kids of the rich, mighty, ty, and gifted get enrolled there.
It's a big privilege for me to sit for their entrance exam tomorrow, I wondered how it was going to be joining a bunch of brain boxes for the same course, but I knew my hard work of continuous reading for the past week wouldn't go in vain, as if not law, then I don't think I have passion for any other course.
Checking out their various past performances, I was convinced that the school was too good for it to be known globally; they had to be well grounded to achieve the milestone that the school had attained.
"Ma'am, you've been sitting in the same position for the past hour with your eyes on your phone, aren't you tired?" Emma asked.
"Not yet, I need to gather enough information before going to the school." I sighed.
"Wow, you're trying o, I must say you are a bookworm."
"Being a bookworm is good as I will always be updated up here." I smiled tapping my head.
"Nice, and that's why I'm praising you; for the past week, you've been studying, and now you're researching the school?"
"I can't help it, I love reading." I chuckled at her amazed expression.
"Well, I guess Law would be great for you; I heard lawyers do study books that are as huge as your dictionary," she says while lifting my dictionary like a weight lift, and it made me laugh.
"This is nothing compared to the books law students read, I know." I smiled.
"Wow, well, I'm glad school is not for me, that's why when my papa asked me to drop out of school due to financial crises, it didn't bother or hesitate I was happy about it, I don't have the patience you have to study like this o." she sighed.
"Education is the key to success, and mind you, ignorance is also a disease, so you shouldn't avoid studying because when you read, your brain impacts more,e, and your knowledge increases."
"Whatever Ma'am, nothing will ever convince me." She replied and all I could do is to smile.
"Okay, your choice then, well you're distracting my research, c'mon go back to your work." I sighed.
"I'm done with mine, the rest are clearing the dishes." She replied.
"Ugh! Then go and chat with the other maids. Goodnight, you're dismissed for tonight." I sighed.
"You're chasing me away?" She pouts.
"Emma!?"
"Sorry, I'm leaving; good night, Ma'am." She smiled and quickly shut the door behind her, leaving me with my thoughts again.
For the past week, Emma and I have grown so fond of each other that it no longer feels like she was my maid; rather, with her around, I sometimes regard her as Jamila.
In this same week, many things changed, my relationship with Amina had kinda of turned very sour ever since the pool incident, it's not that I was keeping malice with her, but I was still healing from what I call a betrayal of trust, while she was giving me space like I strictly demanded from her.
