[45] Moment Of Truth

You handed him his phone before heading out of the bathroom.
Diego: what?
He looked down at his phone.
Diego: shit. Stephanie?
Stephanie: who was that?
Diego: who was who?
Stephanie: I'm not stupid. Who was the girl?
Diego: girl?
Stephanie: yes, a girl diego.
Diego: uhhhh it was y/n.
Stephanie: y/n?
Diego: yeah.
Stephanie: why is she with you?
Diego: she's not
Stephanie: then why'd she pick up?
Diego: she didn't. I was the one that picked up.
Stephanie: mhmmmmm.
Diego: I swear babe. She just happened to pass by me in the hallway when I answered.
Stephanie: whatever. Are you almost done getting ready?
Diego: ready for what?
Stephanie: for breakfast?
Diego: breakfast?
Stephanie: god you're so slow. Yes diego breakfast. We had a breakfast date planned today.
Diego: we did?
Stephanie sighed
Diego: sorry, I totally forgot. We're gonna have to reschedule
Stephanie: what! Why?
Diego: I've got practice
Stephanie: okay? We can grab lunch after your practice instead
Diego: can't. My moms in town and Im hanging out with her
Stephanie: what!! Why didn't you tell me your mom was coming?
Diego: because there wasn't any necessity in you knowing.
Stephanie: is she staying long?
Diego: no, just for this weekend
Stephanie: I'll clear my schedule and swing by for her tomorrow
Diego: what?
Stephanie: I want to hang out with her. Let's do something fun tomorrow yeah?
Diego: no.
Stephanie: why?
Diego: because you're not meeting my mom
Stephanie: what?
Diego: I don't really see the need in you meeting my mom
Stephanie: Diego, we're dating.
Diego: it's not even been a month of us together.
Stephanie: and? I want to meet your mom.
Diego: no Stephanie.
Stephanie: why? Stop making it a big deal.
Diego: because-
Stephanie: because what?
Diego: VOY! They're calling me, I'll let you know what day we can go get breakfast. Bye.
Stephanie: Diego-
He hung up relieved he was able to cut off the conversation. He walked out of the bathroom to find you sitting on his bed and smiling at your phone.
Diego: y tu? Quien te puso esa sonrisa?
You: no one
He walked over to you and snatched your phone out of your hand
You: what the fuck Diego!
Diego: Brianna?
You: DAMELO
You grabbed it out of his hand.
Diego: you better not be texting Joao
You: I'm not.
Diego: good
You rolled your eyes
Diego: Did you think about what you're gonna tell the press if they ask you about him?
You: the truth.
Diego: which is?
You: that he had another woman behind my back who is indeed pregnant
Diego: damn you're just gonna expose his ass like that?
You: yeah, he deserves it.
Diego: I guess
You:  it's whatever honestly. Why would I bother wasting my time and energy on a piece of shit.
Diego: I tried to warn you pero como siempre. You never listen.
You: can we change the topic?
Diego: sure?
You: shouldn't you be leaving?
Diego: yeah, actually.
You: don't wanna keep your little girlfriend waiting.
Diego: huh?
You: Stephanie, she's outside no?
Diego: no, I'm guessing she left after I told her our plans were canceled.
You: oh..
Diego: how'd you know? Wait, were you the one who answered my phone?
You: not exactly. I was gonna hand you your phone but the screen was humid from the steam of the shower so I guess my finger slipped.
Diego: mhmmmm.
You: I swear, why would I answer one of your hoes calls?
Diego shrugged
Diego: whatever imma head out. I should be back around 10ish to give you the things you need
You: okay.
He stood up grabbing his backpack and heading out. You stayed in his room for a bit just laying in bed on your phone. You had made plans to hang out with Brianna and then go pick up memos kids to take them out for ice cream. You were waiting until you heard the team exit through the front door to get out of his room and go back into yours. After a while you heard the front door close and the house went silent. You got up opening the door of his room and walking into yours, without realizing that memo was standing in the hallway looking through his backpack to make sure he had his shin guards. He looked up and was about to greet you when he noticed you were coming out of Diego's room in his clothes. His eyes widened as he shook his head making his way out as quiet as possible. You picked out your outfit for the day and set it apart from the rest of your clothes. You started packing everything, which didn't take you long because you didn't bring much. Afterwards you set your luggage next to your door and got ready for the day. By the time you finished it was almost 10am meaning the team was almost back. You went downstairs to make them breakfast as a little thanks for putting up with you and for letting you stay with them even though this was your house. A little later the door swung open and the team walked in all sweaty.
Edson: huele rico.
Raul: alomejor es y/n que está almorzando.
They all walked towards the kitchen to find the table set up with plates in every seat for them.
You: come sit down! I made breakfast.
They all thanked you and rushed to sit down
Raul: pero primero que se bañen no? You're all sweaty
They groaned.
You: they're hungry apa
Raul: ok ok fine let's eat first.
They all sat down and started eating. Everyone except for Diego who was missing.
You: you guys enjoy, I'll be back later.
Dad: a donde vas?
You: with Brianna
Dad: okay. Come back before 5pm.
You: why?
Dad: we have something planned
You: okay? Oh and um memo is it cool if I take your kids out for ice cream when they come out of school?
Memo: uh sure. I'll call my wife and tell her to let their school know you'll be picking them up. I'll send you their school address.
You: thanks.
You headed back upstairs to your room to grab your purse. Diego was sitting on your bed.
Diego: finally!
You were startled
You: AH! FUCK!
Diego: shhh
You: what are you doing?
Diego: I got the things. Here.
He handed you a grocery bag.
You: oh right thanks. I'll take it later.
Diego: no. You're taking it right now.
You: I have somewhere to be.
Diego: so do I. My mom is waiting for me but I lied telling her there was traffic. Take it.
You: I'm scared to take it. What if it comes out positive? What are we going to do?
Diego sighed.
Diego: I don't know yet. But let's hope you're not pregnant. Go take it to get this over with.
You grabbed the test from the bag.
You: okay I'll be back.
You walked into your bathroom opening it and peeing on the correct side. You put the lid back on the test and walked out.
Diego: there?
You: yeah.
You placed it on your drawer upside down.
Diego: how long do we have to wait?
You: 12 minutes.
Diego: fuck.
You could tell he was nervous by the way he was fidgeting with his rings. You made small talk to help time go by faster.
You: sooo where are you taking your mom?
Diego: I think shopping and then to dinner.
You: that's nice.
Diego: yeah. You know how she is. She likes to keep things simple.
You chuckled
Diego: But I see you've already packed.
You: I had time this morning so I decided to get it over with. If not I would be in a rush later.
Diego: are you excited to go back?
You: a little yeah. I mean France is my new life, it's what I'm used to. But Mexico is my home. I've lived here most of my life and my loved ones are here. And well I have new projects to get to back in France, so I have to go back.
Diego: you know I always doubted you. I never thought you were going to make it as a model.
You: I know. I always saw through you. All you ever cared about was YOUR career.
Diego nodded gently looking at the floor. The room went silent and tension arose.  You felt uncomfortable, until he broke the silence.
Diego: memo was a bit off today. But I don't know if it was just with me. Has he talked to you today?
You: yeah. About his kids. But he seemed fine to me.
Diego: he was acting strange with me this morning.
You: What do you mean?
Diego: well I gave him a ride to practice today and the whole car ride he was talking to me about making sure I was making the right decisions and about how it was time for me to settle for someone. It eventually turned into a lecture. It was the weirdest thing.
You: okayyyy?
Diego: then on the way back he got a ride from chucky but he saw me getting off the car with the grocery bag and I'm guessing he saw what was inside because he shook his head at me with a look of disappointment.
You: fuck. Are you for real?
Diego: yeah. I don't know where this came from.
You: maybe he saw Stephanie outside waiting for you in the morning?
Diego: I don't think so. Maybe it's because he always hears noise coming from my room. If you know what I mean.
You: oh. Yeah he's probably sick and tired of you. Since his room is next to yours.
Diego: maybe I should start getting a hotel.
You: yeah. Maybe. Do you think he would suspect of us?
Diego: memo? Pffft no.
He sighed before checking his clock.
Diego: it's been 12 minutes.
You stood up grabbing the test making sure not to flip it over yet. You sat next to Diego.
You: okay. Ready?
Diego: yes
You flipped the test over showing Diego.
