Mary: ay diego
Diego: ma come on we're here for Mauro, not her.
You: tiene razón.
Mary: bueno, how long are you staying here in Spain?
You: a week or 2. Depends.
Mary: porque no vamos a almorzar en la semana?
You: encantada
Diego: seriously?
Mary: Que?
Diego shook his head no and went to go sit with his sister in law.
Mauro's wife: she's very pretty Diego
Diego: whatever
Mauro's wife: what's wrong?
Diego: everything.
Mauro's wife: and by that you mean what exactly?
Diego: everyone's fan girling over her as if she was the queen of England and then she begged on coming with me. I told her no but she's so stubborn and came.
Mauros wife: wait what? I'm so confused. Are you 2 together or not?
Diego: no
Mauros wife: she's your ex?
Diego: yeah
Mauros wife: ahhh okay. How did she find out about Mauro?
Diego: she was with me
Mauros wife: and why's that?
Diego: doesn't matter but point is we were together and I couldn't talk her out of staying home
Mauros wife: well seems to me like she was missed a lot by Mary.
They turned to look at the 2 of you having a conversation
Diego: clearly. I just fucking hate when they tell me that I fucked up and shit.
Mauros wife: I'm guessing you cheated on her?
Diego: yeah, with her cousin
Her eyes widened
Mauros wife: COUSIN?
That caught your attention and you turned to face them. He gave you a fake smile before you turned your attention back to Mary.
Diego: can you say that a little bit louder? I don't think the entire room heard you
Mauros wife: are you crazy?! With her own family? What the fuck.
Diego: in my defense it wasn't me who kissed first
Mauros wife: ummmm- you still cheated
Diego: yeah but her cousin was the one who started it. Besides y/n and me weren't really together at that point because neither of us had time for each other and we hadn't seen eachother in a long time
Mauros wife: so? You guys were still a thing.
Diego: yeah but that was in the past.
Mauros wife: so what? Are you guys on good terms now?
Diego: I guess. I mean she's still a bitch.
Mauros wife: ay! Callate. Don't call her that.
Diego: uy perdón I didnt know you were on her side too
Mauros wife: oh I'm not on anyone's side.
Diego: mhmmm
Mauros wife: are you getting back with her?
Diego: PFFFT HELL NO.
Mauros wife: why not?
Diego: never in a million years. What we once had is over. Never again.
Mauros wife: never say never Diego. Uno nunca sabe
He rolled his eyes
Diego: yeah yeah whatever
Mary went to go get some coffees and meanwhile you went to go sit with Diego. You walked towards him and Mauros wife and sat down next to him.
You: watcha talking about?
Diego: nothing that involves you
You: dick
You hit his arm and he cleared his throat, side eyeing you with gritted teeth
Mauros wife: where did mary go?
You: she went to go get coffee
Mauros wife: I'll go help her with it
She left you 2 alone. Diego's dad was on a phone call outside.
Diego: I really don't see why you had to come
You: are you really asking that again?
Diego: y/n go home. You just caused a big fucking scene. Everyone is asking me about us.
You: and? I don't care. I'm not leaving.
Diego: don't make me blackmail you into leaving
You: with what? The picture?
Diego: yeah obviously
You: you know what?
Diego: what
You: if you wanna post it THAT fucking bad then do it.
Diego: w-what?
You: post it Diego I don't give a shit anymore
Diego: you're crazy
You picked up your phone to see Kevin calling
You: I'll be back
Diego: take as long as you need, and maybe a take a trip back home
You stood up and walked out of the waiting room. Then you answered your phone.
You: hey!
Kevin: hey, is Diego with you?
You: ummm nope. I don't know why you would think he's with me
Kevin: you sure?
You: positive. Porque?
Kevin: well Diego texted me saying he was at the hospital because Mauro got in a car accident andddd Stephanie may or may not have seen my phone and she's on her way there. And Diego's not picking up his phone.
You: SHES WHAT?
Kevin: on her way there
You: what? Why? How did she see your phone?
Kevin: Diego was supposed to meet us at an ice cream shop later today but he never showed. And my phone rang and she thought it was hers
You: fuck. Ummm pues no, Im not with Diego.
Kevin: ughhh. Well I hope Mauros okay.
You: yeah, hopefully.
Kevin: okay pues I'll see you tomorrow?
You: yep!
You hung up and walked back to the waiting room. You sat back down next to Diego.
Diego: who was it?
You: Kevin
Diego: Kevin?
You: yep.
Diego: what'd he say?
Then Mary came back with the coffees with the help of Mauros wife.
Mary: ya regreseee!
She handed both you and Diego a coffee
You: gracias
She sat down
Mary: y bueno porque tan serios?
You just smiled while Diego zoned out
Mary: ehmmm entonces cuéntame más sobre tu carrera y/n.
You: pues me esta llendo muy bien! Me encanta mucho modelar.
Mary: me alegra!
You were tapping your foot thinking of an excuse to tell them so you could leave before Stephanie arrived. But you just couldn't bring yourself to leave. Mauro came back inside and sat down to join you guys.
Mauro: bueno y a todo esto, porque estaban juntos?
You looked at Diego who sighed
You: fuimos por un...café y no topamos.
Mary: ahhh miren nada mas.
She laughed
Mary: donde se vinieron a topar
You: si. Nos tomó de sorpresa.
Then the sound of heels echoed throughout the room. You automatically knew who it was.
Stephanie: Diego baby!!
She ran to him and his eyes widened at the sight. She sat on his lap and hugged him.
Diego: um- Stephanie?
Stephanie: I got here as fast as I could. I couldn't believe the news! Is your brother okay?
Diego: ehmm how did you know about this?
Stephanie: doesn't matter. Have you guys heard anything about your brother?
Diego: no.
She sighed and turned to look at all of you guys staring.
Stephanie: ah! Where are my manners?
She stood up shaking everyone's hand.
Stephanie: hi, how are you guys?
Mary: good.
Stephanie: that's great.
Mauro: good.
Mauros wife: and you areee?
Stephanie: Diego's girlfriend.
Mauros wife: ah. I see.
Then she turned to you.
Stephanie: y/n? What are you doing here?
You: umm same thing you're doing here.
Stephanie: oh. Um well how have you been? I mean since last time I saw you. You looked pretty pissed. I'm sorry if I said anything out of your comfort zone and-
You: it's fine. Don't sweat it.
She nodded her head and sat back down on Diego's lap
Stephanie: I was calling you babe. Why didn't you answer?
Diego: phone died.
Stephanie: oh.
You were all pretty uncomfortable by her presence. After a couple minutes Stephanie passed out on Diego. You looked at your watch and decided it was late and a good idea if you went back home.
Mauro: I wonder how much longer they're going to take to give us an update
Mauros wife: ya no han de tardar
You stood up patting your legs.
You: umm ya es un poco tarde y creo que es mejor si me voy.
Mary: que? No. Quédate mija. Aquí duermes con nosotros.
You: ahí no como cree. No hay espacio y aparte no quiero molestar. Solo esta la pura familia y pues..ya sabe.
Mauro: no no. Tu todavía cuentas como familia. No te preocupes. Quédate
Mauros wife: si y/n. Stay it's fine really.
You: I'd love too pero tengo planes con un amigo mañana temprano entonces no puedo. Pero avísenme si algo sucede.
Mary: bueno.
They stood up giving you a hug.
Mauro: veniste en tu carro?
You: fuck. Ehh no Diego me trajo.
Mauro: bueno llévate su carro. Y que el se devuelva con nosotros
You: no esta bien. Ahorita pido un Uber
Mauros wife: no no. Es muy peligroso.
Mary: si. Porque mejor no te lleva diego?
Diegos attention was grabbed. You both looked at eachother
Mary: la llevas a su casa diego?
Diego: ehhh
He looked down at Stephanie who was asleep on his lap
Diego: si.
He moved her carefully placing her on the couch. He took out the keys from his jeans.
Diego: ahorita regreso
Mary: con cuidado
You both walked out taking the elevator not saying a word. Once you guys made it to the bottom floor you passed through the automatic doors and stopped at the exit. Rain was pouring outside and you shivered as the cold air hit your bare arms. Diego noticed and bit his lip.
You: are we going to make a run for it?
He took off his jacket placing it over your shoulders, making sure it covered you well. You looked down at the jacket but he lifted your chin for your eyes to meet his. He placed the strand of hair that was covering your face behind your ear and stared deeply into your eyes. In that moment everything seemed to stop. And the only thing that mattered was the feeling of your insides turning.
