Marinette and Adrien slowly walked through the gardens. Adrien had offered to talk inside, but Marinette said that she wasn't planning to stay long. Plus she felt that she didn't deserve to go inside. What if his dad was there and she'd had to introduce herself?
Telling her fashion role model that she's the cause of his son's heartbreak was not the first impression she planned to make. Hell, she doesn't think she'd be able to get a word out in front of the man. Now that she thinks about it, how would she even be able to introduce herself to him if she's starstruck?
Not the time to be thinking about it, Marinette. She shook her head.
"Listen I -"
"So I -"
Both she and Adrien spoke at the same time.
"You first."
"Go on."
They did it again.
They stood there in silence for a passing moment before bursting into laughter.
"No, seriously, you go first." Adrien looked at her with a charming smile that he probably didn't know he was doing. Marinette's smile faded as she remembered her reason for being here.
"I wanted to apologize. For everything." She turned to look straight ahead. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen. I actually didn't even think you and (y/n) knew each other. Granted, I think if I just talked to (y/n) after finding out that the two of you were friends maybe all of this could have been avoided. But then there's the whole Luka situation - which I honestly had no idea about so she would probably still be upset with me or something and I - I don't know. I'm rambling at this point."
She slumped her shoulders. "Sorry."
Adrien couldn't help but chuckle a bit. She's a pretty funny girl. Even when she's rambling. He can understand what his friends found charming about her.
Hearing his laugh made Marinette relax again. She was a bit confused as to why he was laughing exactly, but she was glad that he didn't seem upset anymore. She was worried about that immense sadness she felt from him earlier. She hated feeling that sort of emotion coming from him.
Adrien stopped in his tracks when they got close to his mother's statue. He wonders what his mother would think about their situation. He for sure knows that she would have loved Marriente. She wouldn't have liked what happened, but something told him that his mother would have given her a chance to explain.
"I get that you shouldn't assume that every rich or famous person knows each other, so I don't blame you for that." He continued walking. "So I don't blame you for that. I just - I don't know - wish you could have talked to me about it when we first ran into each other? That way we could have talked to (y/n) together."
His gaze traveled over to the rose bushes near them. "But instead you just ran off and avoided me, and that hurt. A lot. It honestly hurt more than the flowers."
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that too." Marinette winced. "After seeing you do a couple's photoshoot with Kagami, I convinced myself that you liked her. And I honestly think that stemmed from all of the insecurities I have. If you can't tell, I'm a huge klutz and I'm a total dumbass who thought she wasn't worthy of love. Hell, I'm still not worthy of it. So when I saw the two of you together, I thought that was it. I had no idea that you would suffer along with me."
She widened her eyes, quickly adding, "And again, this isn't in any way an excuse for what I did or thought. I'm only explaining myself and I understand if you still hate me after this because I totally would and if you only want to meet up with each other once a month or a year so we'd don't die, I'll totally be okay with that. I just want to tell you that I regret every stupid decision I have ever made."
