*Retrouvaille - (n.) the joy of meeting or finding someone again after a long separation; rediscovery
Marinette watched you run out of the music stall in such a hurry. Luka appeared a moment later and ran after you. A sinking feeling grew in the pit of her stomach. She knew that this was a bad idea. You weren't ready to talk. You still needed some space.
"I told you this wasn't going to work." She whispered-yelled at Adrien, beating his arm with light slaps.
"We still don't know if anything bad is going to happen," he defended.
"Hey, is that -"
"When the fuck did he get here?"
Cecil and Grace turned to the two bickering teens beside them. Adrien quickly noticed Grace's fuming anger and moved to stand in front of Marinette. The pig-tailed girl had stopped her nagging lecture when she saw the serious look in her soulmate's eyes.
"It was my idea," he spoke before either of the two girls could say anything. His posture was straightened and the fierceness in his voice reminded the shorter of the two of the time they once dueled in a fencing tournament. His green eyes were just as piercing as back then. He reached behind him, taking Marinette's hand in his own. "Marinette tried to talk me out of it but I convinced her to go along with it."
Grace's jaw tensed. "Why?"
"Because he never got to explain himself," Cecil spoke from beside her. She was more composed than her soulmate and must have known what Adrien was already thinking. Sighing, she turned to her soulmate. "We keep cutting the guy off before he could even step into the same building as (y/n). So he's never been able to tell us his side of the story."
"And that could worsen their situation," Adrien added.
Grace remained silent. Her mind flooded with all the events that happened these past weeks. The scene of you crying in the middle of the sidewalk still haunted her. She blamed herself for not realizing how much you've been hurting. She's supposed to be your best friend, she's supposed to know everything about you. How could she have fallen for all those fake smiles and excuses? Then again, you do come from a family of amazing performers.
Plus, you're alive - you're smiling again. And she'd do anything to keep you from lying in that hospital again.
Blowing her cheeks in defeat, she looked back at where Marinette was hiding behind Adrien. "You're right. Luka and (y/n) are soulmates, they can't keep acting like they're not. Sorry."
"It's all good." Marinette walked out from behind the blonde model smiling. Her hand still intertwined with his. "I just hope this all works out."
Adrien gave her hand a squeeze, earning a look from her. The bright smile he gave, and the way his thumb ran across her knuckles, seemed to have comforted her. Her worries washed away as she focused on the warm presence beside her.
"Don't worry," Grace grinned. She pulled out her phone and began messaging a separate group chat. "Mission retrouvaille* is a go!"
She looked up to see the three giving her odd looks. "What? It's a soulmate reunion*, it makes sense."
Adrien and Marinette giggled while Cecil lightly shook her head. Grace rolled her eyes, and the four continued on with their work. All hoping that everything will turn out alright by the end of the day.
----
Luka was still calling your name even after you had run away from Mr. Adebayo's stall. Taking a quick look over your shoulder, you realized that he was very close to catching up to you. So you threw the box of remaining pastries at him.
