Mark heard small smacks against his floor while he peeled his eyes away from his phone to look where he heard the noise coming from. The light from the hallway was the only source of lighting he had since his door was open. He watched as a small figure with a mop of bouncy hair waddled in front of his bed until it reached Mark's side of the bed, standing with some thing it was holding that the older could not make out.
"Can't sleep, Dongmin?" Mark softly asked as the almost three year old boy shook his head, throwing something over Mark which the older now observed it was his bear plushie as Dongmin was climbing on his bed with the help of the black haired male pulling him up. Dongmin plopped his body on top of Mark like a starfish, holding his bear plushie between both their bodies as he listened to the older's heartbeat.
Mark carefully pulled the covers over their bodies as he rubbed the boy's back with a small smile. Ever since they had gotten back from the daycare center, Dongmin had been oftly quiet which was very unusual for the boy since he was always a walking ball of energy. Now here Dongmin is, coming to sleep with Mark at two in the morning. He was not acting like himself and it made Mark curious as to why he was acting this way. He knew his son was trying to help his teacher earlier before they passed out but he does not know why this was taking such a toll on the little boy.
Maybe it was traumatizing for him? Or maybe he was shaken up by it? Or maybe he really was just upset that he could not be of help? Mark did not really understand what was going on inside his son's little brain, but he was trying his best to be as patient and understanding as possible with him. He hopes this does not stay lingering on Dongmin's mind forever and he hopes he would be his usual self again soon.
Waking up later on in the day, Donghyuck was in an empty apartment. Neither Taeyong not Ten were there and Donghyuck quickly reached for his bag that Ten left beside the bed so that he could check his phone. He missed another work shift, but this time for the daycare. It was almost four in the afternoon so Taeyong should be on his way back. Donghyuck cursed out loud for missing another work day as he entered the kitchen area, finding that Ten had cooked him something this morning and left it in the microwave for him to heat up and eat later.
Donghyuck pressed the start button on the microwave as he watched his plate of food circle around. Once the timer went off, he took out his plate and set it on the table. He searched for utensils, finding it in one of the drawers by the sink. He had the same bottle of water he drank earlier as he sat down to eat. His mind wandered back to Dongmin and he wondered how the little boy was holding up right now. Donghyuck misses him so much.
The front door opened and entered Taeyong, Donghyuck whipping his head back to see the blonde remove his shoes and smile at him. "I have something for you." The older had waved a paper in his hand, Donghyuck squinting to try to see what it was as Taeyong giggled. He walked over to the younger who was seated at the table and handed him the piece of paper.
"It's from your son," Taeyong said as he saw Donghyuck's tired eyes lit up with adoration as a smile grew on the tanned male's face. The little boy had attempted to draw him and his papa together, holding hands in front of a little tree. Donghyuck internally cooed as he used one of his hands to caress the sheet of paper.
However, Donghyuck's eyes widened in realization as he looked back at Taeyong. "I-I can explain!" Donghyuck shook in nervousness as Taeyong frowned.
"You don't have to explain anything to me. It's your business and if you're comfortable telling me, then it's fine and you can do so. So for now, don't force yourself to tell me anything," Taeyong answered, bringing up his hand to ruffle the younger's red messy hair. Donghyuck bit his lip out of anxiousness as he clutched the paper tightly before setting it down on the table.
