Keenan's song has blown up so fast since the day it was released at the club. The radio station can't get enough of it and people from school are always tweeting lyrics from it. It plays on both of the popular local radio stations and boys just love posting Instagram pictures quoting the song as their caption.
Even now, the song is playing on the radio as Aubrey dries her hair while Jeremiah lays on her bed and plays with Nevy. She actually likes the song too, the beat has an old school feeling to it and the lyrics come straight from the heart. She feels special since she was there when Keenan was working on the song and she kept urging him to release it. He was afraid because he thought he wasn't good enough but look at him now. She wishes she had the chance to rub it in his face.
Once her hair is dry, Aubrey goes back into plugs in her straightener and waits for it to heat up. Neveah watches her with wide eyes as she walks across the room, her hair is puffy and wild, the way it always gets after being washed.
"Mommy looks like a lion, huh?" Jeremiah says to her and runs his fingers through her curly hair. "You're going to have good hair just like her."
"There is no such thing as good and bad hair." Aubrey says, while massaging moisturizer into her scalp. "Hair is hair."
"Well there's nappy and there's silky, and my baby is not going to have nappy hair." Jeremiah says.
"What if her hair turns out kinky?"
"Well there are different types of kinky. The good bouncy curly kind, and the rough matted kind."
Aubrey rolls her eyes at him. "Whatever," she walks over to her mirror and sits down on the floor. Sectioning out her hair, she begins straightening it.
Jeremiah picks up the radio remote and changes the station. "I'm tired of hearing this song."
Neveah suddenly burst out crying making him jump. He picks her up and places him on his stomach. "What's the matter Nevy?"
"That's what you get for changing her song." Aubrey smirks over her shoulder. Jeremiah turns to the previous station where Keenan's song is still playing and Neveah stops crying. She picks up her teething ring and puts it in her mouth happily. Jeremiah furrows his eyebrows.
"Wow Nevy," he chuckles. Aubrey smiles to herself, she must be sharing the same idea as Neveah. That song is too good to ignore.
Once the song ends and the radio host start talking again, Neveah begins to whimper again before Jeremiah shakes her rattle to distract her. Aubrey listens to the host speak as she parts another section of her hair.
"And that was Back Against the Wall by newcomer Keenan Moore. Man this song has been blowing up for the past couple of weeks and the hype just doesn't seem to die. Which is why I've got a special treat for everybody, we have Keenan Moore in the studio with us now. Say wassup Keenan."
"Hey everybody,"
The sound of his voice sends a tingle down Aubrey's spine. She glances at Jeremiah out the corner of her eye but he's too engrossed in his phone to notice anything.
"So Keenan, what did you do when you first heard your song on the radio?"
"I turned the radio up as high as it could go and rapped along with my lyrics. All my emotions hit me at once and I realized that this is real, I'm not dreaming. My music is finally out there and I have Marcus and God to thank for that." Keenan replies.
"That's great, how long have you been making music?"
"Since sophomore year,I taught myself how to rhyme and create meaningful lyrics. My sisters boyfriend helped me create beats to go with my lyrics and it became a lifestyle ever since."
